Your Opportunity:
Calgary - Youth Substance Use and Mental Health Services (YSUMHS) is looking for a responsible, reliable, versatile, team minded professional to join our spectrum of services (out-patient to intensive live-in treatment programming) in the role of the Recreational Therapist (Rec T). The role centers around the provision of individual, group, and family treatment services as well as milieu management and crisis intervention. Along with the required qualifications, the successful candidate will possess skills related to teamwork, communication, and the engagement of very complex clients and their families. Experience working with higher-needs youth, court ordered clients, live-in settings, community stakeholders and contracted agencies are all assets. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Rec T is an integrated member of an interdisciplinary team that including addiction counsellors, family counsellors, nursing staff and psychiatry to facilitates the recovery process for youth with substance use/mental health concerns. The Rec T is responsible for providing recovery-oriented Rec T services to individual clients which include assessment, treatment, and follow up. The Rec T is also responsible for capacity building which includes program development and provision through partnering with various community stakeholders. The Rec T will be responsible for direct client care in coordination with other team members, cooperation with family and staff from other agencies. You will take a client and family centered approach to supporting youth and families in achieving their treatment goals.
Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I,
you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients' treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working with adolescence with substance use and mental health concerns. Experience working within a live-in treatment environment
