Journeyman Welder/Fabricator
CAKI Fabrication Ltd. | Red Deer County, AB
Full-Time, Permanent | Monday–Friday
$38.00–$48.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and demonstrated fabrication capability
If you're an experienced welder/fabricator who enjoys variety, solving problems and taking a job from start to finish, we'd like to hear from you.
CAKI Fabrication is looking for a skilled Journeyman Welder/Fabricator to join our team in Red Deer County. We're looking for someone who knows how to fabricate — not just weld. You should be comfortable taking a job from a drawing, measurements or customer requirements through layout, fitting, welding, assembly and finishing.
Our work is varied. One job may involve custom fabrication in the shop, while the next could be an equipment repair, aluminum project, structural fabrication or field job at a customer's site. We're looking for someone who enjoys that variety, can think through a job independently and takes pride in doing good work.
What You'll Do
- Perform MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW) and Stick (SMAW) welding as required
- Fabricate components and assemblies from start to finish, including measuring, layout, cutting, fitting, tacking, welding, assembly and finishing
- Read and work from blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, measurements and specifications
- Accurately lay out, fit and assemble components
- Complete custom fabrication, modifications, repairs and maintenance work
- Work with mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum as required
- Safely operate common fabrication equipment, power tools and hand tools
- Troubleshoot fabrication and repair challenges and develop practical solutions
- Inspect completed work and maintain a high standard of quality and workmanship
- Work independently and manage assigned jobs effectively
- Keep customers and Senior Management informed of job progress, questions, changes or concerns, and communicate issues early and directly
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, protected and organized condition
- Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures and PPE requirements
- Work in both the shop and at customer/off-site locations as projects require
- Other duties as required
What We're Looking For
- Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate or recognized equivalent
- Strong hands-on fabrication, fitting and layout experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with MIG, TIG and Stick welding
- Ability to fabricate from drawings, measurements and project requirements
- Experience working with mild steel; aluminum and stainless steel experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and weld symbols
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
- Experience with repair and maintenance work is an asset
- Red Seal endorsement is an asset
- Current CWB tickets are an asset
- Solid attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated, able to take initiative and comfortable making practical decisions within the scope of assigned work
- Dependable and accountable, with the ability to take ownership of assigned jobs
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing projects, priorities and work environments
- Able to work effectively under pressure when required
- Clear, direct and professional verbal and written communication
- Professional and respectful when dealing with customers, coworkers, suppliers and management
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates when something isn't right and can be counted on to see a job through properly.
