Bracewell Marine is a leading and growing marine service shipyard and boat builder in British Columbia. We proudly repair, repower, and build marine vessels such as fishboats, tugboats, other commercial vessels (e.g., RCMP, Prince of Whales), and private yachts up to 130 feet and 220 tonnes. Operating in the Shelter Island Marina in Richmond, BC, we are part of the extensive BC marine industry supporting the 4th largest port in North America and the logging, fishing, tourism, and pleasure craft markets.
We are hiring 2 Construction Contractors on a 4-month contract to erect, alter, and finish a series of temporary buildings and install a series of overhead cranes at our expanding Richmond shipyard. This is hands-on construction work with a firm deadline, not a supervisory or desk-based role. Work is available to start immediately, and the contract may be extended through to summer 2027.
Responsibilities
· Erect, alter, extend, and dismantle a series of temporary and pre-engineered buildings, including tent structures on containers, doors, cladding, lighting, and weather sealing
· Frame, sheet, and finish structures - rough and finished carpentry, drywall installation and finishing, and interior build-out of shop and work areas
· Form, pour, and finish concrete foundations, footings, pads, and anchor points for buildings and crane columns
· Install overhead bridge cranes, including footings, columns, runway rails, alignment, rigging, and mechanical assembly, with other trades and contractors available for specialized assistance
· Install and repair roofing, flashing, and building envelope on yard buildings and container structures
· Complete paving, asphalt, gravel, grading, and site preparation for yard access, laydown areas, and building approaches
· Support electrical rough-in and industrial power and lighting installation for buildings and crane systems, working with licensed electricians where required
· Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and cranes as required to complete the work
· Work at heights, including up to approximately 80 ft off the ground, and in confined spaces when required
· Sequence your own work to a fixed construction schedule and keep the project moving without daily supervision

Skills and Experience
· Required: 5-10 years of hands-on construction experience across carpentry, concrete, and general site work
· Required: Strong carpentry ability - layout, framing, sheeting, finishing, and confident use of hand and power tools
· Required: Concrete foundation experience - forming, rebar, placing, and finishing footings, pads, and slabs
· Required: Roofing experience, including flashing, sealing, and weatherproofing
· Required: Drywall installation and finishing
· Required: Paving and asphalt experience, including site preparation and grading
· Required: Highly motivated, deadline-driven self-starter who works independently and prioritizes practical problems
· Required: Ability to work at heights, outdoors, and in confined spaces
· Required: Own hand and power tools
· Required: Valid driver license and reliable transportation
· Required: Team-player with a positive attitude and the ability to execute quality work safely and efficiently
· Asset: Industrial electrical or electronics experience
· Asset: Overhead, bridge, or gantry crane installation, rigging, or millwright experience
· Asset: Experience erecting pre-engineered, fabric, or temporary building structures
· Asset: Class 1, 2, or 3 driver license, or Class 5 with Heavy Trailer Endorsement Code 20; air brake endorsement where applicable
· Asset:
Forklift, crane, scissor lift, boom lift, confined space, and fall protection certification
· Asset: Experience in a shipyard, industrial, construction, manufacturing, or marine environment
Other Details
· 2 full time employee or independent contractor positions available immediately - independent contractors must provide a valid WorkSafeBC clearance letter and proof of liability insurance
· 4-month contract, with strong potential to extend through to summer 2027
· Monday - Friday, 8-hour daytime shifts, with some flexibility required to meet project deadlines
· $35-45/hr depending on experience and certification
