The entry level Bookkeeper role supports the financial administration of the restaurant by maintaining accurate records, organizing financial documentation, assisting with reconciliations, and supporting routine accounting processes.
This role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, organization, and consistency. The Junior Bookkeeper works closely with the Operator and other restaurant leadership to ensure financial information is accurate, current, and properly documented.
Key Responsibilities
Daily & Weekly Bookkeeping
Review sales reports, deposits, refunds, and other transaction records for accuracy, and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Assist with third party reconciliations.
Maintain organized digital and physical financial records.
Identify discrepancies and communicate them promptly to the Operator.
Accounts Payable & Expense Management
Organize and enter supplier invoices with restaurant specific software.
Match invoices with receipts, statements, or supporting documentation.
Track restaurant expenses and ensure expenses are categorized correctly.
Assist with preparing invoices and payments for approval.
Maintain accurate vendor records.
Financial Reporting Support
Assist with weekly and monthly financial tracking and reporting,
Help maintain spreadsheets used to monitor expenses, sales, labour, food cost, and other restaurant financial metrics.
Assist with gathering documentation for accountants,
suppliers, or audits when required.
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiencies.
Administrative Support
Maintain confidentiality of financial, and business information.
Liaise with vendors and suppliers as needed.
Keep bookkeeping files organized and accessible.
Assist with filing receipts, invoices, statements, and financial documents.
Complete assigned financial and administrative projects accurately and on time.
Qualifications
Basic understanding of bookkeeping or accounting principles is preferred (1-2 years of experience).
Exceptional attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Robust communication and organizational skills.
Comfortable working with spreadsheets and financial records.
Experience with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software is an asset.
Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently.
Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
Willingness to learn and receive feedback.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Restaurant Operator
The Junior Bookkeeper is a developing financial-support position and does not independently make major financial decisions or authorize restaurant expenditures unless specifically delegated by restaurant leadership.
Hours/Pay: 20-25 hours per week
