Quality Assurance Technician - Voortman Bakery

We are seeking an exceptional results-oriented individual to join our team for the position of Quality Assurance Technician on our night shift, working 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Job Overview

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team on the midnight shift in the Quality Assurance department, for the position of Quality Assurance Technician.

We seek a results-oriented individual. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, your role will be to ensure food safety and the production of products that meet the expectations of our customers.

Our continued goal is to produce the highest quality product while maintaining an excellent rating for our quality system. This will ensure that orders are filled on time so that we can meet the deadlines of our distribution network.

This is an important position with the expectation that you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

- Inspect and monitor the plant on a regular basis to maintain compliance with our quality system and food safety policies
- Play a supporting role for all re-certification audits with our auditing firm, customer audits and government inspections (CFIA/FDA) with quality
- Analyze any defects in the quality system and determine the root cause, with support from team members.
- Visually inspect raw materials and packaging,



in progress goods and final products meet specifications
- Continuously monitor within the plant the packaging seal integrity, product codes, GMP monitoring
- Maintain visual aids as standards for acceptable products
- Review documentation and implementation of our quality system records (Premise Inspection, Stock Rotation, PM Program)
- Complete reports on daily, weekly and monthly findings to the QA Manager
- Monitor visual appearance, colour, weight of product in process.
- Generate reports using excel to show quality trends
- Liaison with various departments to ensure compliance with Prerequisite Programs (i.e. Shipping and Receiving, Preventative Maintenance, Storage, Employees – GMPs, Pest Control, Sanitation, Allergen, Recall etc.)
- Approve, test and release jam preserves for production (Soluble solids using a refractometer, pH testing, Bostwick)
- Test cleaning chemicals by titration to verify target concentration.
- Maintain and update all raw material specification sheets and approved supplier lists with support from Quality Assurance Manager
- Additional projects to be added that support Quality initiatives (i.e. shelf-life extension, food safety of raw dough, yield analysis etc.)




- Collaborate with the Shift Supervisor to support decisions regarding quality and food safety

Qualifications

- 2-3 years of related experience in a food industry manufacturing facility
- Post-secondary education/ certification in related field
- Must be detail oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised
- Proven ability to work under pressure and time constraints
- Knowledge of FSSC 22,000/ HACCP requirements & CFIA & FDA regulations
- Ability/ Flexibility to work on different shifts when needed
- Knowledge of GFSI Food Safety and QA audit trends/ programs
