About Etobicoke Swim Club
Etobicoke Swim Club (ESWIM) is one of Canada's premier competitive swim clubs, dedicated to developing athletes and fostering a lifelong love of swimming. Guided by our mission to set new standards for excellence and achievement, we provide high-quality programming that emphasizes skill development, character building, sportsmanship, and community.
Our Academy Program serves swimmers ages 5–9 and is designed to teach the fundamentals of competitive swimming in a positive, supportive, and engaging environment. Through structured skill progression, individualized coaching, and meaningful relationships, we help young swimmers build confidence, develop strong technical foundations, and discover a passion for the sport.
The ESWIM Coaching Philosophy
At ESWIM, we believe positive relationships are the foundation of learning. While technical development is important, our primary focus is creating an environment where every swimmer feels valued, challenged, and excited to come to practice.
Our coaches play a vital role in helping swimmers develop not only athletic skills, but also confidence, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for healthy activity and sport.
Position Summary
Etobicoke Swim Club is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and knowledgeable Academy Swim Coaches to join our coaching team.
Academy Coaches are responsible for teaching fundamental swimming skills and stroke technique while creating a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Successful candidates will be passionate about working with children, committed to athlete development, and eager to contribute to a collaborative coaching culture.
Program Details
The ESWIM Academy Program consists of six developmental levels focusing on:
- Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke,
and Butterfly technique
- Starts, turns, streamlining, and underwater skills
- Agility, balance, coordination, and movement literacy
- Sportsmanship and teamwork
- Building confidence through achievement and participation
Our coaching structure emphasizes:
- 80% Instruction
- 10% Training
- 10% Relays and Games
Responsibilities
On Deck
- Lead and supervise Academy training groups.
- Deliver engaging and age-appropriate practices aligned with program objectives.
- Teach proper technique in all four competitive strokes.
- Introduce racing skills including starts, turns, finishes, and streamlining.
- Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all swimmers.
- Build meaningful relationships with swimmers and families.
- Adapt instruction to accommodate varying learning styles and abilities.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Maintain attendance and communicate swimmer progress with Academy leadership.
- Assist with swimmer evaluations and report cards.
Events & Club Activities
- Support Academy Racing League competitions and club events.
- Assist with assessments and swimmer placement evaluations.
- Participate in coach meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Support the implementation of Swim Ontario and Swimming Canada policies, including Rowan's Law protocols.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 16 years of age.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for teaching and mentoring young athletes.
Preferred
- Previous swim coaching, swim instructor, camp counsellor, or youth sport experience.
- NCCP Swimming 101 or higher certification.
- Swim Ontario coach registration (or willingness to obtain).
- Competitive swimming background.
- Experience working with children ages 5–12.
