Job Summary

Sokil Transportation Group is a well-established, family-owned business specializing in transportation, logistics, and warehousing. With over 74 years of industry experience, we operate and maintain an asset-based fleet of 100+ power units and 300+ trailers. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Journeyperson Welder to join our trailer shop and help keep our fleet safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance.

Responsibilities

1. Welding, Fabrication & Repair

o Perform welding and fabrication on trailers, trucks, and fleet equipment.

o Repair structural components including frames, bodies, and attachments.

o Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete fabrication work.

o Ensure all welding work meets quality, strength, and safety standards.

o Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in secure working condition.

2. Maintenance Support

o Assist with general fleet maintenance and mechanical repairs as required.

o Support preventative maintenance activities and inspections.

o Collaborate with Heavy Equipment Technicians on repair and service tasks.

o Identify equipment issues and recommend repair solutions.

3. Safety & Compliance

o Follow COR standards and company safety procedures at all times.

o Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.

o Identify hazards, report incidents, and assist with investigations as required.

o Ensure all work complies with applicable provincial regulations and company policies.

4. Team Collaboration





o Work collaboratively with maintenance staff to support workflow efficiency.

o Provide guidance or support to apprentices or helpers as needed.

o Promote a professional, safe, and productive work environment.

5. Documentation & Reporting

o Maintain accurate records of welding, fabrication, and repair work completed.

o Report equipment issues, completed work, and material requirements to the Supervisor.

Experience

o Certified Journeyperson Welder.

o Minimum 3–5 years of experience in welding and fabrication, preferably in a fleet or heavy equipment environment.

o Strong knowledge of welding techniques and metal fabrication.

o Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

o Basic mechanical knowledge of trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment is an asset.

o Understanding of OH&S; regulations and COR safety standards.

o Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

o Physical ability to work in fleet maintenance facilities and outdoor environments.

Work Environment

o COR-certified safety program.

o Primarily indoor work in a heavy-duty shop, with occasional outdoor duties.
