Job Summary

Maxfield Academy is seeking a knowledgeable, dedicated, and student-focused Biology and Chemistry Teacher to teach senior-level Ontario secondary school courses, including SBI3U, SBI4U, SCH3U, and SCH4U. The successful candidate will have a strong academic background in science and the ability to make challenging concepts accessible and engaging for students in a small-class learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver Grade 11 and 12 Biology and Chemistry courses in accordance with the Ontario Curriculum.
- Develop engaging lessons, laboratory activities, assignments, assessments, and examinations aligned with curriculum expectations.
- Explain complex scientific concepts clearly and support students with different learning needs and academic backgrounds.
- Provide individualized guidance and timely, constructive feedback to help students improve.
- Use a variety of assessment strategies to evaluate student achievement and maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Establish a safe and organized environment for laboratory activities and ensure appropriate laboratory safety procedures are followed.
- Communicate with students, parents, school administration, and guidance staff regarding student progress when appropriate.
- Support students preparing for university programs in life sciences, health sciences, engineering, and other STEM-related fields.
- Participate in school activities, meetings, professional development,



and other responsibilities associated with the school community.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong subject knowledge in both Biology and Chemistry, particularly at the senior secondary level.
- Previous experience teaching or tutoring Grade 11/12 Biology and Chemistry is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the Ontario secondary school curriculum and assessment practices is an asset.
- Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification is preferred but not necessarily required for candidates with strong subject expertise and relevant teaching experience.
- Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students in both small-group and individualized learning environments.
- Patient, responsible, approachable, and genuinely interested in supporting students' academic development.
- Experience with AP Biology, AP Chemistry, or university-level science preparation would be considered a robust asset.

Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12.0 – 18.0 per week
