Live-In Caregiver and Companion

Full time | $3,500 per month plus free private accommodation and shared groceries

We are looking for a kind, dependable and practical live-in caregiver to support an elderly woman and her adult son in their family home in Saskatoon.

The son requires assistance with personal routines, meals, organization and daily activities. His mother is largely independent but benefits from companionship, meal support and someone attentive to her wellbeing.

This would suit someone looking for a stable, long-term position with comfortable private living quarters and considerable independence outside scheduled working hours.

Compensation and Accommodation

- $3,500 gross per month, paid semi-monthly
- Private lower-level bedroom, living area and bathroom
- All utilities and internet included
- Shared household groceries included
- No rent or accommodation deductions
- Living quarters and utilities valued at approximately $1,500 per month

The accommodation is intended for the employee only.

Responsibilities

- Assist the adult son with bathing, grooming, dressing and personal routines.
- Prepare meals, lunches and snacks.
- Help him get organized and ready for work, appointments and activities.
- Provide companionship, supervision and practical daily support.
- Provide companionship and light assistance to his mother.
- Monitor both individuals’ comfort, safety and wellbeing, and report any concerns.
- Assist with groceries, errands, appointments and transportation.
- Complete routine household duties, including cooking, dishes, laundry and cleaning common areas.
- Help maintain grocery and household-supply lists.
- Assist with light seasonal yard and front-driveway upkeep where appropriate.

Care and safety always come first. This is not a nursing position and does not involve medical procedures or heavy lifting. Medication assistance is limited to reminders, observation and reporting.

Schedule

The position involves approximately 40 hours per week,



generally spread over Monday through Saturday. Hours may include a combination of late-morning, afternoon and evening responsibilities.

Sunday will normally be the employee’s day off. Reasonable schedule adjustments and alternate days off can be arranged in advance.

The employee will have personal time and independence outside scheduled responsibilities. Living in the home does not mean working continuously or being routinely on call overnight.

Limited outside employment may be permitted following prior discussion and approval, provided it does not interfere with the employee’s availability or responsibilities.

The Right Person

We are looking for someone who is:

- Kind, patient and respectful
- Reliable and comfortable working independently
- Comfortable assisting an adult man with personal care
- Attentive to routines and changes in health or behaviour
- Able to prepare simple meals and manage routine household tasks
- Interested in a stable, long-term living and employment arrangement

Previous caregiving, disability-support, senior-care or home-support experience is preferred. Formal training is helpful but may not be necessary for someone with suitable experience and good judgment.

A valid driver’s licence is strongly preferred. If the employee uses their own vehicle for approved work-related transportation, they will be compensated at an agreed rate.

Requirements

- Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
- Employment references
- First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain them
- Strict respect for family privacy and confidentiality
- No smoking or vaping in the home

Applicants should be prepared to make an initial 18-month commitment. The employment may continue indefinitely afterward by mutual agreement.
