About the Role

Champs Fresh Farms is seeking a Tray Sealer Machine Operator to run and maintain our new Redpack Redseal R6 automatic tray sealing machine, which top-seals film onto pre-formed punnets for our fresh mushroom product lines (8oz, 16oz, and 24oz formats). This is a hands-on production role requiring attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a strong commitment to food safety.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate the Redseal R6 tray seal machine to safely and efficiently seal mushroom punnets to production targets (up to 20 cycles/minute, multi-impression tooling).
- Perform tool and format changeovers between 8oz (5-impression), 16oz (3-impression), and 24oz (4-impression) tooling configurations.
- Load and monitor film reels (up to 280mm handling, 260mm max diameter); manage motorized film tensioning and print registration for printed film.
- Use the HMI touchscreen to select pre-programmed recipes, monitor batch counts, and respond to alerts (E-stop, guard open, film snap detection).
- Conduct routine quality checks on seal integrity, fill weight, and punnet presentation; escalate defects per QA protocols.
- Perform basic troubleshooting (film snap, misfeed, seal faults) and know when to escalate to Maintenance/Engineering.




- Complete start-of-shift and changeover sanitation and inspection per HACCP and food safety programs.
- Maintain accurate production records (batch counts, downtime, waste) in line with traceability requirements.
- Support ancillary equipment integration (coders/printers such as Videojet or Markem, if installed).
- Follow all lockout/tagout, electrical (400V 3PH), and compressed air (6 bar) safety procedures.
- Keep the work area clean and organized; participate in 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

- Prior experience operating packaging, filling, or tray-sealing equipment in a food manufacturing environment (1+ years preferred).
- Comfort working with servo-driven, PLC/HMI-controlled machinery.
- Basic mechanical aptitude — comfortable with tool changes, film loading, and minor adjustments.
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, recipes, and food safety checklists.
- Solid attention to detail and consistency, especially around seal quality and product presentation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 kg, and work in a cool environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work rotating shifts including some weekends as required by production schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Redpack, Omori, Ross, Multivac, or similar tray sealing/lidding equipment.
- Familiarity with HACCP food safety programs.

Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
