Gridwise Engineering is a small but growing power engineering consultancy, based in Burnaby area delivering engineering services to power utility and industrial clients in Canada.

We are currently looking for an Intermediate Electrical P&C; Engineer focusing on substation protection and control (P&C;) design. If you are self-driven and have a strong grounding in electrical power systems and relaying, this is the chance for you. You will work alongside a very talented and experienced group of professional engineers, take ownership of P&C; design deliverables and play a key part in developing our junior engineers. Our team of engineers are known in the industry in BC and beyond for their considerable knowledge.

This role offers significant responsibility and autonomy in a growing power engineering consultancy, with exciting opportunities and large growth potential as the company expands. You will work across a range of utility and industrial projects, including substation, hydroelectric generating station and renewable energy projects for clients across Canada, further developing your technical and project leadership skills.

Job Description:

- You will develop P&C; design for power utility and industrial substations at voltage levels ranging from 25kV to 230kV, taking ownership of deliverables from concept through to construction.
- You will prepare, check and review P&C; design deliverables including single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics (AC & DC), logic diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and material lists for the manufacture and installation of P&C; panels.
- You will develop AC and DC station service designs, including load calculations, distribution single-line diagrams and connection details for battery chargers, batteries and inverters.




- You will perform QA/QC of P&C; design packages, attend design review meetings and update work packages based on client comments.
- You will coordinate with physical design, civil, mechanical, SCADA and other disciplines, project managers and clients to develop optimized substation design solutions.
- You will provide technical direction and mentorship to EITs and designers.
- You will travel to client sites across Canada and panel shops for site surveys, factory acceptance tests and, when the opportunity arises, commissioning and field engineering support.

Required Qualifications:

- Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with registration, or eligibility to register, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC
- 6+ years of engineering work experience on P&C; projects, including 4+ years of detailed P&C; design experience with major and/or local utilities in Canada
- Strong knowledge of protection and control principles and philosophies, along with experience in the design of electrical power systems
- Experience with BC Hydro and/or FortisBC design standards will be considered favourably
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD for design and drafting will be considered favourably
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- A valid BC class 5 drivers license
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, taking initiative as required
