About The Position
The Skilled Carpenter / Construction Labourer is a hands-on position for an experienced residential construction worker who takes pride in quality workmanship and is comfortable working independently on a wide variety of construction tasks.
This position is suited to someone with strong carpentry and general construction experience who can take on more advanced work, read drawings and plans, solve problems in the field, and work efficiently with the rest of the crew. The successful candidate will also be a positive resource for less-experienced labourers, helping them learn proper techniques and understand how to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform general residential construction and carpentry work as required.
· Perform both rough and finishing carpentry, including framing, layout, measuring, cutting, assembly, installation, repairs, and renovations.
· Willingness to be involved in all aspects of building construction, including but not limited to grade/elevations, concrete, window and door installations, drywall, painting, and landscaping.
· Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, and project details.
· Complete framing and construction tasks including walls, floors, roofs, stairs, trim, doors, moulding, and other woodwork.
· Carefully measure, cut, shape, and join wood and wood-substitute materials to achieve accurate, high-quality results.
· Complete more advanced carpentry tasks and take on challenging construction work as required.
· Use hand tools, power tools, measurement equipment, and construction equipment safely and effectively.
· Work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to ask questions or bring issues to the Site Supervisor.
· Help identify practical solutions to construction challenges and communicate issues before they become larger problems.
· Work alongside labourers and less-experienced crew members, demonstrating proper techniques and helping them develop their construction skills.
· Be willing to answer questions, explain how tasks are completed,
and share knowledge with other members of the crew.
· Lead by example through quality workmanship, safe work habits, reliability, organization, and a positive attitude.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the day.
· Follow company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices, including proper use of PPE.
· Work respectfully and cooperatively with coworkers, Site Supervisors, subcontractors, and other trades on site.
· Help load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment as required.
· Assist with general labour and site tasks when required, regardless of experience level or trade specialty.
· Complete work efficiently while maintaining Vision Contracting’s standards for quality and workmanship.
Qualifications and Experience
· Strong residential construction experience.
· Strong carpentry background with experience in both general and/or finishing carpentry.
· Licensed Journeyman Carpenter certification is an asset but is not mandatory.
· Strong rough framing experience.
· Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, sketches, and specifications.
· Experience with high-end residential construction is an asset.
· Experience with hand-framed rafter layouts and joinery is an asset.
· Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and proper installation techniques.
· Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
· Valid WHMIS certification is an asset.
· Understanding of basic Ontario construction and safety requirements.
· Comfortable working at heights, climbing and moving ladders, lifting and carrying materials, and working both indoors and outdoors.
· Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.

· Patient and willing to explain techniques, demonstrate proper methods, and share construction knowledge.
· Able to take direction from Site Supervisors and Project Managers and adjust priorities as required.
· Adaptable to changing site conditions, schedules, weather, materials, and project requirements.
· Good communication skills and ability to raise questions or concerns when something does not look right.
· Honest and accountable, including being comfortable acknowledging mistakes and helping correct them properly.
· Committed to maintaining a clean, safe, respectful, and professional jobsite.
· Willingness to continue learning, improve trade skills, learn new construction techniques, and attend training when required.
Technology & Other Skills
· Experience with BuilderTrend and SiteDocs is an asset.
· Comfortable using basic digital tools for jobsite communication and documentation.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44.0 per week
