MAC RENO-DESIGN-BUILD

Position: Accountant

WHO WE ARE

MAC Reno-Design-Build is a growing Residential and light commercial, design and build company operating across multiple entities — MAC Reno-Design-Build, MAC Island Construction, and Coastal Accents Millwork. We build and strengthen community through world-class craftsmanship, trusted partnerships, and a team that is humble, hungry, and smart.

We are a values-driven company. Collaboration, curiosity, integrity, and C.A.R.E. — Create A Referable Experience — are not words on a wall. They are how we make decisions, how we hold each other accountable, and how we show up for our clients and trade partners every day.

This is a shared-services Finance seat supporting all three operating companies. You will work closely with the Controller and the Senior Bookkeeper to keep the group's day-to-day accounting accurate, current, and audit-ready.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a motivated, analytical, and systems-oriented Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a broad, hands-on accounting position within a growing design-build construction company. The role begins with significant responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash transactions, reconciliations, capital and cost tracking, and other day-to-day accounting activities, while progressively developing broader responsibility across the full accounting cycle, month-end close, financial reporting, and analysis.

Because MAC operates in a project-based construction environment, this position requires more than transaction processing. You must understand how transactions flow through the organization and ultimately affect project costs, cash, the general ledger, financial reporting, and business decisions. You will also work alongside our Senior Bookkeeper to progressively build full payroll accounting and reconciliation capability.

The right person for this role is curious, analytical, and comfortable with technology — someone who asks questions, investigates discrepancies, and looks for better ways to get work done. A professional accounting designation is not required; the role is particularly well suited to someone pursuing, or considering pursuing, the CPA designation.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN Accounts Payable & Vendor Accounting

You review and process project-related and corporate vendor invoices accurately and within established timelines, using TrailD for coding, project allocation, and supporting documentation. You ensure invoices follow approval workflows and Delegation of Authority requirements, investigate coding discrepancies and exceptions, and maintain accurate vendor records.

You prepare payment batches for review and authorization — you do not approve or release your own payments.

Accounts Receivable & Cash

You record and apply customer payments accurately and promptly, monitor customer accounts for exceptions, and support AR aging and collections. You reconcile cash and banking transactions daily and provide the Controller with accurate, current cash information.

General Accounting, Costing, Capital & Payroll Transition

You support the full monthly close cycle — general ledger accounting, reconciliations, capital asset tracking, and job-cost support in coordination with Production and Estimating. You progressively shadow and build payroll accounting, reconciliation, and labor-to-job-cost posting capability alongside the Senior Bookkeeper, working toward independently owning payroll processing.

Process Modernization, Automation & Financial Systems

You develop strong working knowledge of Acumatica, TrailD, Buildertrend, Lumber, and other financial systems, and understand how information moves between them into financial reporting. You identify inefficient processes, data-quality issues, and control gaps, and explore practical, appropriate uses of AI and automation to improve reconciliations, analysis, and reporting — without compromising controls.

Internal Controls & Financial Integrity

You follow established approval authorities and segregation-of-duties requirements on every transaction, maintain complete audit trails, and raise unusual transactions or control weaknesses directly to the Controller rather than resolving them yourself.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

● Invoices are captured, coded, and matched accurately; payments are prepared, never released solo.

● Receipts are applied the same day; AR aging is current; daily cash is visible to the Controller.

● Reconciliations are complete and capital assets are tracked — no surprises at month-end.

● Payroll ownership transfers cleanly from the Senior Bookkeeper, with no gap in control or capability.

● Practical automation and AI opportunities are proposed and implemented without weakening controls.

● Segregation of duties is followed on every transaction, and issues are raised — not worked around.

MEETINGS & CADENCE

- Weekly Finance Team Huddle — deadlines, close readiness, exceptions, and coverage.
- Weekly 1:1 with the Controller — priorities, coaching, and open items.

- Monthly Close Cycle — AP, AR, reconciliations, and close support on the Controller's checklist deadlines.
- Payroll Transition Sessions — scheduled shadowing and hand-off checkpoints with the Senior Bookkeeper.
- A Hoc — system testing, process improvement initiatives, and audit support.

TECHNOLOGY YOU WILL WORK IN
- Acumatica — primary ERP and accounting system for the MAC Group.
- TrailD — AP automated workflows and approvals.
- Buildertrend — project management platform; source of job cost and WIP data.
- Lumber Payroll system — payroll processing, remittances, and cost reporting.
- Sheets and other analytical tools — reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.
- Banking portals — daily cash and deposit management.
- Google Suite — Email, spreadsheets, shared drive storage and document control.
- ChatGPT/Claude — AI integration and automation.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required

- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with significant coursework in accounting.
- Approximately 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Sound understanding of fundamental accounting concepts — debits and credits, accrual accounting, general ledger coding, cut-off, and account reconciliations.
- Practical experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial and operational data.
- Experience working with an ERP or integrated accounting system.
- Construction, project accounting, job costing, or capital-cost tracking experience is considered an asset.
- CPA preparatory coursework or an interest in pursuing the CPA designation is considered an asset.

Character
- Humble, hungry, and smart — the MAC standard for every team member.
- Thinks critically and asks questions when something doesn't make sense.
- Wants to understand the entire accounting workflow, not simply their individual task.
- Comfortable investigating discrepancies, identifying root causes, and following issues through to resolution.
- Organized and able to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
- Demonstrates integrity, discretion, and valuable judgment when handling confidential financial information.
- Wants to learn, develop professionally, and take on increasing levels of accounting responsibility.

WHY MAC
- A genuine growth path: Accountant → Senior Accountant → Controller, working directly with MAC's Controller as you develop.
- A company that is growing with intention: multiple entities, real complexity, and a clear vision through 2027 and beyond.
- A culture built on integrity, collaboration, and doing the right thing — even when it is harder.
- Direct exposure to the full accounting cycle, from transaction processing through to close, reporting, and eventually payroll ownership.
- A small Finance team where your contributions are visible and your development is a priority.

Pay: $68,000.00-$78,000.00 per year
