Participants are expected to gain hands-on knowledge and strategies that can elevate the quality of reporting,

particularly at the community level where accountability journalism is most needed.

Strengthening Grassroots Journalism The organisers emphasised the importance of strengthening local journalism in Nigeria, noting that follow-up reporting remains a critical gap in holding institutions accountable.

A statement accompanying the call noted that the programme will help journalists “produce impactful stories that hold power to account,” especially within underserved communities.
