About The Role The Business Intelligence Analyst at CSP will play a vital role in transforming complex data into insightful, actionable information to support strategic decision-making across the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the successful candidate will be responsible for organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data related to CSP’s publishing operations, journal performance, and business functions.
This role involves developing and maintaining dashboards and reports that integrate data from various departments including editorial, marketing, sales, and finance. The analyst will leverage business intelligence tools such as Power BI to visualize data trends, monitor key performance indicators, and generate reports that inform leadership and operational teams. Additionally, the role involves conducting research analytics on journal metrics, citation impact, author behavior, and broader trends in scholarly publishing.

Qualifications
- A university degree in Data Science, Information Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Library or Information Studies, Publishing, or a related research discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience analyzing data, identifying trends, and developing reports or visualizations to support decision-making.
- Proficiency with Power BI or similar business intelligence and data visualization platforms, including dashboard creation and report development.
- Knowledge or interest in scholarly publishing, research evaluation, bibliometrics, or related fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex data to non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Self-motivated, curious, and collaborative approach to learning and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across different teams.
Additional assets include familiarity with scholarly publishing workflows, bibliometric sources such as Crossref or Web of Science, experience with SQL, Python, R, APIs, data warehouse concepts, or advanced research methods. Graduate-level research experience or coursework related to publishing, research analytics, or data science is also advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards, reports,
and data visualizations to provide real-time insights into CSP’s operational and strategic metrics.
- Integrate data from editorial, peer review, marketing, sales, finance, and other systems to deliver comprehensive performance overviews.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators, journal metrics, and research impact indicators to inform organizational strategies.
- Conduct detailed analyses of journal performance, including citation metrics, author engagement, submission trends, and geographic distribution.
- Explore emerging trends such as artificial intelligence applications, licensing models, metadata standards, and research evaluation metrics.
- Support the development and optimization of CSP’s data warehouse and reporting infrastructure, collaborating with technical teams as needed.
- Maintain documentation for metrics, data sources, and reports, ensuring clarity and consistency across organizational units.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline recurring data collection and reporting processes.
- Work closely with colleagues to understand their analytical needs, translating business questions into effective data solutions.
- Stay informed about industry developments, emerging data sources, and best practices in research analytics and scholarly publishing.
