Child & Youth Coordinator

Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre

Job Term: Full-Time Permanent Position

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: To be determined

Location: Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre

3 Months Probation

Position Summary

The Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre is looking to fill a position as the Child & Youth Coordinator, under the direction of the Executive Director. The Child & Youth Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Healing Centre Staff to improve service delivery for Children and Youth.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Support Children 7-12 years and Youth 13-24
- Providing services and support
- Provide programs for children and youth using exercise, nutrition and life skills
- Ensure utilization of cultural teaching and knowledge throughout all programs
- Outreach and engage community partners and stakeholders as it pertains to the needs of the children and youth, program deliverables
- Apply and developed workplan into work setting with the goal of improving the lives of children and youth
- Promote awareness and ensure access to the programs through a variety of outreach and promotional activities
- Work with Elders, traditional keepers and youth to collaborate, develop Youth Culture Camps that can provide youth with land and community-based activities using traditional knowledge
- Facilitate sharing circles that include teaching and discussions opportunities of cultural knowledge
- Communicate with children, youth, families, community and departments
- Collecting, analyzing and presenting verbal and written information appropriately
- Participate in community engagement activities




- Flexible to work hours outside the hours of 9 to 4:30 to accommodate respected target groups, as required
- Maintain a valuable relationship with local communities, third party organizations

Skills and Qualifications

- Minium of three (3) years of demonstrated and related work experience
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, histories and the impacts
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous child and youth engagement and community outreach
- Knowledge of traditional teaching, water and land-based activities and traditional medicine
- Experience in program planning, development, implementation and date collection
- Accurately reporting and ensuring all program objectives are met
- Ability to be a leader and positive role model for children and youth
- Must process a current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work as a team/other programs
- Strong time management, organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Must have a valid Driver licence
- Other duties as assigned (within reason)

Preference may be given to Aboriginal candidates with relevant on reserve employment experience and/ or those with knowledge and understanding of Shawanaga First Nation history and community.

Successful candidates must be able to produce and maintain a clean Criminal Record Check
