Annual salary: $1,901.39 - $2,394.93 biweekly

The location for this posting is in Vernon, BC.

The CO-OP Student will support BC Hydro’s internal construction organization (Construction Services) across Civil, Line,

Electrical, and Mechanical disciplines. This role provides hands-on exposure to utility construction, project planning and execution, and field coordination.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced field managers, construction supervisors, project managers,

and craft teams to assist with planning, documentation, field support, and quality control for capital and maintenance work.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Construction Support

- Assist construction supervisors with work planning, site coordination.




- Support field crews during Civil, Line, Electrical, and Mechanical construction activities.
- Participate in field verifications, as built documentation, and redline drawing updates.
- Help monitor construction progress, schedule updates, and milestone tracking.
- Observe safety practices and ensure all work aligns with utility safety standards and policies.

Engineering & Technical Support
- Support the preparation of construction packages, drawings, and work instructions.
- Perform basic quantity surveying or data analysis under supervision.
- Assist with reviewing shop drawings, vendor documentation, and technical submittals.
- Contribute to quality inspections and documentation for completed work.
- Assist with investigating and integrating new technologies into utility work environment

Documentation & Administrative Tasks
- Update project files, logs, and documentation in company systems.
- Support procurement activities such as material requests and inventory checks.
- Review and update Quality Documents
- Support in developing and updating department processes and procedures

As a Co-op student, you will learn and experience: Practical, hands-on work experience directly related to your specific field of study. Learning and training opportunities, including opportunities to network with your division. Learn all about other divisions and initiatives at BC Hydro. Take advantage of the opportunity to explore future career options. At the end of the co-op term, the students will have excellent first-hand knowledge of the multi-disciplined, fast paced, large hydropower construction.

What you bring

- To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be enrolled and yet to graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in

Canada.
- Completed a minimum of 2nd year studies at an accredited university in:
- Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering degree; or




- Construction/Project Management Degree;
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong communication skills, highly motivated and results oriented.
- This position requires a valid Class 5 BC driver's license.

What we offer

- As a condition of employment at BC Hydro, a background check clearance will be required.

This may include: reference

checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.
- All positions will be hired first as a four month work term. For some positions, there is opportunity to extend, to eight

months.
- Students are expected to work at the job location for their co-op role and it is the student’s responsibility to relocate

themselves if necessary. Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be required as a pre-condition to employment.

Adaptable work model role definitions:

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements.

Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

Field - No work from home option

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
