In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, this position assists in the provision of service for the Northern Health Infection Prevention Program for acute, continuing care facilities, and public health programs by developing education materials and implementing transmission precaution strategies and the surveillance, investigation and reporting of healthcare acquired infections, in order to minimize risk of infection to patients/resident/clients, staff and visitors.

This position will promote continuous quality improvement methodology and epidemiological principles to carry out the functions of the service and this will be done within a fiscally responsible environment.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00 Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC) infection prevention approved course. Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.

Integrates best practice from Infection Prevention and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice. Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns. Actively supports the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) values of NH.





Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means. Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively. Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to Infection prevention and well-being.

Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions. Ability to operate related equipment including proven ability to utilize computer technology.
