WHO WE ARE
Terroir Artisan Butter is a small Calgary-based company producing premium, naturally cultured artisan butter made from premium all-Canadian ingredient.
We make our butter slowly, shape it by hand, and wrap every block individually. Our products are sold through specialty grocers, independent food shops, restaurants, farmers markets, and directly to customers across Alberta and Canada.
Farmers markets have been an important part of growing Terroir. They give people a chance to discover our butter, taste it, ask questions, and meet someone who can tell them why it is different.
We are looking for someone to represent Terroir at markets throughout the fall and Christmas season which could also lead into next spring and summer season.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
This could be a good fit for a university or college student, a recent graduate, or someone with another part-time job who wants flexible weekend work.
Previous market, retail, restaurant, or customer service experience is useful, but it is not essential. We care more about finding someone who is reliable, personable, organized, comfortable talking to people, and able to work independently.
You should enjoy food and be interested in learning about what we make. You do not need to know much about artisan butter when you start. We will teach you.
Most importantly, when you commit to a market, we need to know you will be there and be on time.
THE JOB
You will represent Terroir Artisan Butter at farmers markets, Christmas markets, food events, and other pop-ups in Calgary and surrounding communities.
Many of our markets take place outside Calgary, including Bearspaw, Millarville, Okotoks, Spruce Meadows, and other communities throughout the Calgary region, so having reliable transportation is essential.
You will typically pick up the butter and market supplies before the event, transport everything to the market, set up the Terroir booth, operate it during the market, and pack everything up afterward.
Most shifts will be on Saturdays and Sundays, although some Friday evenings, weekdays, and multi-day Christmas markets may also be available.
We are looking for someone who can work regularly throughout the fall and Christmas market season, approximately September through December 2026. There is also an opportunity for this position to continue into the spring and summer. During those months, Terroir is very active at farmers markets, often attending markets up to five days a week, so there can be plenty of ongoing work for the right person who is interested in staying with us longer term.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Represent Terroir
- Welcome customers and introduce them to Terroir Artisan Butter.
- Explain what cultured butter is and what makes our butter different.
- Learn our products, ingredients, production methods, and brand story.
- Offer samples when appropriate.
- Represent Terroir in a friendly, polished, and professional way.
Sell
- Engage people with even a friendly "hello" walking through the market rather than simply waiting behind the table.
- Process purchases using our point-of-sale system.
- Handle cash and electronic payments accurately.
- Keep the booth organized and attractive throughout the market.
- Help turn people who are discovering Terroir for the first time into customers.
- Promote our retail partners to customers who buy our product so they know where to buy it again.
- Encourage people to sign up for updates on our website and to follow us on Instagram and TikTok.
Set Up & Pack Up
- Transport butter and market supplies to and from events.
- Set up our six-foot table, signage, table coverings, cooler, sampling materials, and product display.
- Keep butter properly refrigerated throughout the event.
- Break down and pack the booth after the market.
- Return unused product and supplies as required.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Reliable access to your own vehicle.
- A vehicle with enough space to transport a medium-sized cooler, six-foot collapsible table, signage, and 1-2 duffel bags of market supplies.
- Availability on weekends, particularly Saturdays and Sundays.
- Willingness to drive to markets in Calgary and surrounding communities.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- Comfortable approaching and speaking with customers.
- Reliable and punctual. Market start times are fixed, so being late is not an option.
- Comfortable lifting and carrying coolers, tables, boxes, and market supplies.
- A clean, presentable appearance appropriate for representing a premium food brand.
- A smartphone for communication and operating our point-of-sale system when required.
You do not need previous farmers market experience. If you are responsible, comfortable talking to people, and willing to learn, we can teach you the rest.
SCHEDULE
This is a seasonal, part-time position running through the fall and Christmas market season.
Most shifts will take place on weekends, with additional opportunities for Friday evenings, weekdays, and holiday markets depending on our schedule.
Market shifts vary in length. Some are half-day events,
while larger farmers markets and Christmas markets may require a full day including travel, setup, and teardown.
We understand that students have school schedules, exams, and other commitments. We can offer some flexibility, but once you commit to a market shift, we expect you to be there and ready to work.
Applicants who can consistently work multiple weekends throughout the season will be given priority.
COMPENSATION
$20.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience.
You will also receive
- Terroir product discounts.
- Product and sales training.
- Opportunities to work additional markets and special events.
- Potential for continued seasonal work in 2027.
- Profit sharing
THIS POSITION MAY BE A GOOD FIT IF… You are a student looking for weekend work that is more independent than a typical retail job.
You like food, farmers markets, restaurants, cooking, or hospitality.
You are comfortable meeting new people and can carry a conversation without needing a script.
You are organized enough to load a vehicle, arrive somewhere on time, set up a booth properly, run it for several hours, and pack everything back up without someone standing beside you telling you what to do.
And perhaps most importantly, you are dependable. We are a small business, so when someone agrees to represent us at a market, we are relying on that person.
