Monday to Friday - 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM ( approx. 35 hours her week)

Duration of Position: Immediately - December 18, 2026

ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking applications for a Food Services Worker, at the Brooks Composite High School. Reporting to the School Principal, the Food Service Worker is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school cafeteria providing and maintaining a safe and clean environment, with prompt, friendly service, while upholding Grasslands values.

This is a full-time, temporary position beginning immediately, and ending on December 18, 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Please note: this position is under temporary contract, duration of this position could be shortened or extended based on the return of the person being replaced.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL: Brooks Composite High School is located in the city of Brooks, Alberta. The city has a population of approximately 14,000 people is located In South Eastern Alberta along the Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and Medicine Hat. BCHS is a high school of about 620 students in grades 10-12.

We offer a full range of all the academic offerings in addition to a well respected vocational program that includes Mechanics, Construction, Cosmetology, Foods and Digital Media. We also offer a fine arts program that includes visual arts and performing arts including Music and Drama. In addition, we are pleased to host the district Inclusive Education Program and have a large ELL program that serves the needs of many newcomers to Canada. We are also very proud of the athletic and extracurricular programs at our school. Job Duties:

- Perform tasks related to the preparation and operation of the cafeteria and the preparation of meals
- Assist/prepare menus in accordance with established practices and standards
- Assist/prepare and cook complete meals, including meats, fish, vegetables and various other foods; prepare salads, bake bread, rolls, cookies and other pastry/dessert items
- Operate and maintain a variety of kitchen equipment
- Maintain inventory levels (food/supplies) and order same in accordance with estimated needs
- Establish and maintain a stock rotation system to minimize loss
- Check and verify receipt of goods
- Maintain the required standard in the preparation and serving of meals
- Ensure that kitchen equipment and supplies used to perform duties are stored and maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Research and recommend new food items to the daily menus as required, ensuring that all daily menus and foods provided are nutritionally balanced
- Submit reports of damages or any other requirements for repair as they occur
- Perform all other such duties as may be assigned by the supervisor with new and unusual matters referred to a supervisor for guidance.
- Handle all products safely and follow safety procedures prior to using any new products
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly duties as outlined assigned, to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Ideal candidates skills & abilities:

- Able to prioritize tasks both routine and unexpected, and work with interruptions.
- Able to read labels and follow applicable safety protocol.
- Able to perform tasks, on every shift,



that may be physically demanding that includes but not limited to; climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, and reaching; lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing; and prolonged standing.
- Able to conduct oneself in a responsible and respectful manner with students, school staff, and visitors, third parties, that is in alignment with division’s policies, guidelines and values.
- Able to operate a variety of kitchen and food preparation tools/equipment and assemble and disassemble according to safety procedures and protocols.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision, while working independently or on a team, which requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple demands.
- Able to ensure that safe working procedures and conditions are always adhered to and follow all Food Safety and OH&S; protocols.
- Able to effectively communicate while working independently, or with a team, to ensure safe work practices.
- Understanding and appreciation of Grasslands Public Schools mission and values.
- Respect and value all individuals with sensitivity to diversity.
- Personal integrity and trustworthiness.
- Enjoys working around and interacting with senior high aged students.
- Patience, flexibility, resilience, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in a busy school environment.

Education and Certifications:

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Food Safe Level I

Considered an asset but not a requirement:

- Post-secondary training in education in a related field.
- Two or more years of experience working in a related setting.

*A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

- A Current Criminal Record Check (CRC)
- The original document is required to be submitted, and reported within the last 6 months of hire date.
