Toric Optometry & Optical is seeking an experienced, highly organized Optometric Assistant to join our growing independent practice in Mississauga.
This position is best suited to someone who thrives in a busy clinical environment, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and is comfortable managing multiple patient and administrative workflows while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing reception and front-desk workflow
- Greeting, checking in and checking out patients
- Answering phones, emails and patient inquiries professionally
- Scheduling and coordinating appointments
- Maintaining an organized patient schedule and following up on outstanding items
- Processing payments and assisting with insurance-related administrative tasks
- Preparing patients for their examinations
- Performing diagnostic pre-testing, including: OCT, fundus imaging, autorefraction, corneal topography, axial length measurements
- Other diagnostic testing as required
- Ensuring test results are accurately transferred and available for the optometrist
- Maintaining accurate patient records
- Coordinating referrals, recalls and follow-ups
- Supporting general clinic organization and daily administrative tasks
- Helping maintain an efficient patient flow during busy clinic sessions
The Ideal Candidate We are specifically looking for someone who is:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Able to complete tasks from beginning to end without requiring constant supervision
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinic
- Confident communicating with patients in person and over the phone
- Professional, dependable and punctual
- Comfortable learning technology and diagnostic equipment
- Able to prioritize when several things are happening at once
- Proactive rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done
- Comfortable receiving feedback and adapting quickly
- Interested in becoming a reliable long-term member of the practice
Experience Previous experience in an optometry is strongly preferred.
Experience with OCT, topography, axial length measurement or other ophthalmic diagnostic equipment is an asset.
Candidates with experience working in a high-volume optometric or ophthalmology practice are particularly encouraged to apply.
Availability
We are looking for someone with strong and reliable availability. 4–5 days/week, weekend availability required.
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
