Job Overview The Health Director provides leadership and overall management of Marten Falls First Nation health programs and services. The position is responsible for departmental planning, staff supervision, program delivery, budgets, funding agreements, reporting, partnerships, and continuous improvement.

The Health

Director works with Chief and Council, senior administration, community members, employees, health professionals, funders, and partner organizations to ensure services are effective, accountable, culturally appropriate, and responsive to community needs and priorities.

Responsibilities and Duties In addition to the job overview above, the Health Director duties include and are not limited to:

- Provide overall leadership, direction, and day-to-day management of the Health Department and its programs and services.
- Develop departmental priorities, annual work plans, service objectives, procedures, and operational practices consistent with community needs and Marten Falls First Nation direction.
- Supervise Health Department employees and provide explicit direction, coaching, support, and performance expectations.
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, training, performance management, employee development, and other human resource processes for departmental staff.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of community health and wellness programs.
- Identify emerging health needs, service gaps, and opportunities to improve or expand programs and services.
- Support effective coordination of community health, prevention and wellness, mental health and addictions, chronic disease, maternal and child health, home and community care, medical transportation, and other health-related services as applicable.
- Promote culturally appropriate, community-based, and client-centred approaches to health and wellness.
- Coordinate access to external health professionals, agencies, hospitals, nursing services, and specialized services where required.
- Support emergency preparedness and health-related response activities affecting the community.
- Develop and administer departmental budgets in cooperation with Finance and senior administration.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure funds are used in accordance with approved budgets, organizational policies, and funding agreements.




- Prepare, review, and submit program, financial, statistical, and funding reports accurately and within required timelines.
- Assist with funding proposals, renewals, negotiations, and the identification of new funding opportunities.
- Maintain effective working relationships with Chief and Council, community members, Elders, employees, health professionals, government departments, and partner organizations.
- Represent Marten Falls First Nation at health-related meetings, committees, conferences, and working groups as required.
- Advocate for improved access to health services, resources, and supports for Marten Falls First Nation members.
- Develop, review, and implement departmental policies, procedures, systems, and administrative practices.
- Ensure appropriate confidentiality, privacy, documentation, recordkeeping, and information-management practices are maintained.
- Promote secure working practices and support compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, applicable legislation, funding agreements, and Marten Falls First Nation policies.
- Provide regular updates, reports, recommendations, and advice to Chief and Council and senior administration.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Travel into and out of Marten Falls First Nation, as required for meetings, training, program delivery, and other organizational needs.

- Knowledge and understanding of First Nation culture, traditions, governance, and community priorities.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with community members, Elders, leadership, employees, government representatives, health professionals, and service providers.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of the senior management team.

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in health administration, nursing, public health, social services, business administration, management, or a related field is preferred.
- Several years of progressively responsible experience in health, social services, community services, or program administration.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Experience working within a First Nation, Indigenous organization, community health setting, or comparable environment is a strong asset.
- Experience managing budgets, programs, funding agreements, reporting requirements, and service partnerships.
- Knowledge of First Nation health programs, Indigenous health systems, community health issues, and culturally appropriate service delivery is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.

Working Conditions

- This is a full-time position based in Marten Falls First Nation, Ontario, and travel may be required for meetings, training, program delivery, and other organizational needs.
- May be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, or additional hours due to operational, community, or emergency needs.
- Frequent interaction with community members, employees, leadership, health-care providers, funders, and partner agencies.
- The position involves access to confidential, personal, and health-related information and requires a high standard of discretion and professionalism.

Conditions of Employment

- Must maintain strict confidentiality.
- Satisfactory criminal record and/or vulnerable sector check may be required.
- A valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation may be required.
- Employment is subject to the policies, procedures, and employment requirements of Marten Falls First Nation.

Pay: $63,700.00-$72,800.00 per year
