Position Overview
The Kinésiologue – Maladies Chroniques is a temporary, 0.60 FTE position supporting the Primary Care Program’s outreach to clients with chronic disease or at risk of developing such conditions. The role implements exercise and lifestyle modification programs, delivers one‑on‑one behavioural counseling, and collaborates with a health care team to promote prevention, assessment, and intervention for chronic disease management.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Kinesiologist working with chronic disease populations, addressing risks and safety of physical activity and applying clinical exercise physiology.
- Experience assessing health and fitness levels and prescribing exercise interventions.
- Experience providing individualized behavioural counseling for adult lifestyle change.
Education
- Bachelor of Kinesiology, Exercise, and Sport Science (or equivalent) from a recognized post‑secondary institution.
Certification & Licensure
- Completion of CSEP – CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) be current at all times.
- Completion of CSEP – CEP (Certified Exercise Physiologist) within 2 years of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with an insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
Qualifications & Skills
- Fluency in both official languages (English/French) is essential.
- Knowledge of primary health care settings and teamwork in a health care context.
- Knowledge of applied exercise psychology and behaviour‑change counselling.
- Knowledge of community development principles and cultural diversity determinants of health.
- Strong oral and written communication, decision‑making, problem‑solving, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with inter‑professional teams, physicians, management, staff and external agencies.
- Proficiency working independently and as part of a team.
- Respect for confidentiality in all formats.
- Positive attendance record.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the role.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Travel to other regional facilities or community settings may be necessary.
