benefits coverage (extended health care, dental, sick pay, life insurance) Reporting to the Manager, Laboratory & Pharmacy, the Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) performs a variety of support functions under direct supervision including; performing limited testing/tasks in assigned areas using accepted safety practices including electrocardiogram, Point Of care and phlebotomy; receiving, sorting, and processing specimens following established procedures and guidelines; performing report handling, statistics collection, and document control and inventory and supply control responsibilities; observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures; adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; performing cross functional duties, as assigned, or requested including performing telephone responsibilities; Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician program approved by the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO)
Must have active membership and Certification with the Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) OR the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) in good standing. Preference will be given to Medical Laboratory Technicians who have the cMLA/TMLPAO. The ability to provide effective services to clients/residents Bilingualism will be considered an asset. Must possess the ability to perform routine office procedures and clerical duties rapidly and accurately. Must possess the verbal ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other medical personnel in order to give and receive information and instructions. Develop and maintain effective working relationships, while demonstrating tact and discretion when dealing with patients, the general public, and other employees and physicians Must possess the learning ability to understand laboratory terminology and infection control procedures.
