Extra-Mural Program (EMP), often known as the “hospital without walls,” has operated under the straightforward philosophy of helping New Brunswickers receive the care they need in the places where they are healthiest and happiest - their homes and communities. EMP makes a difference in the lives of those it serves by drastically reducing hospital admissions and greatly increasing patient satisfaction with its level of health care. As part of EMP, your role is vital in our province's overall health.
Join an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals, dedicated to providing New Brunswickers with outstanding, highly coordinated primary health care. As valuable member of the Extramural Program’s interdisciplinary team, the Patient Care Attendant – 2 (PCA-2) reports to the Unit Manager and provides personal support and assistance with activities of daily living and other services to patients of all ages in the community. Using a person-centered approach,
the PCA-2 works in partnership with the patient and their health care team by holistically supporting the patient’s physical, psychological, social, cognitive, cultural, and spiritual needs.
Provides holistic and individualized care across the lifespan. Provides food and meal assistance. Assists with personal hygiene. Supports patient care activities by observing and reporting concerns, changes, or relevant information to the appropriate health care team members.
Provides palliative, end-of-life (EOL), and postmortem care. Assists with restricted activities/controlled acts, as delegated by a Regulated Health Professional Participates as a member of the healthcare team. Documents patient information, care and progress as per EMP documentation standards.
Maintains personal and team members’ safety. Applies infection prevention and control practices.Provides inclusive care. High school graduation plus an additional patient care program/course of up to six months or equivalent.
Experience working with adult patients would be an asset
- A good driving record with a valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver's License
- Able to work all shifts as assigned, maintaining a good attendance record
- A high regard for confidentiality Good computer knowledge and skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Submit a valid and clean criminal record check
- Stephen EMP unit, a valid Canadian passport or Nexus card will be required.
