Qualifications for a PSW

- Valid Certificate as a Personal Support Worker (PSW). Program must meet the standards set by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities or the Ontario PSW Training Standard.
- Nursing student (2 clinical placements completed)

Requirements:
- A valid driver’s license and vehicle.
- Smart Cell phone.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR Level C and First Aid certification.
- Current immunization record (TB test completed within the past 12 months) is required upon hire.
- Current vulnerable sector check screening is required upon hire.
- Availability to work, days including weekends.




- Candidates should be comfortable with physical duties such as lifting up to 55 pounds, climbing stairs, standing, and frequent reaching, bending, and movement requiring hand and upper body coordination.

Responsibilities:

Personal Care Support

- Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, toileting, and dressing
- Support with mobility, transfers, and safe ambulation
- Provide assistance with feeding and meal setup

Health and Wellness Monitoring
- Observe and report changes in client condition to supervising staff
- Assist with medication reminders (no administration)
- Support light health-related tasks as authorized

Household Support
- Perform light housekeeping tasks (e.g., laundry, making beds, tidying)
- Assist with meal preparation and cleanup
- Support with errands or grocery shopping, if required

Emotional and Social Care
- Provide companionship and emotional support
- Encourage engagement in recreational or social activities
- Promote client independence and dignity

Safety and Compliance
- Follow infection control and health & safety protocols
- Maintain client confidentiality and privacy in accordance with PHIPA
- Report safety concerns or unusual incidents immediately

Communication & Documentation
- Maintain accurate care records and activity logs
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and care team members
- Attend training sessions and team meetings as required
