The Program Manager will be reporting into the Director, Portfolio Management TPMO and is responsible for leading the S4HANA Finance Modernization program.

The Program

Manager works closely and effectively with various I.T. and business leaders, along with project managers and their respective project team members and external parties, to ensure the program and projects are correctly defined, planned and delivered.

The Program

Manager is accountable to the Executive and Project Sponsor in the oversight and management of project delivery governance including scope, budget, schedule, and quality to deliver the expected business outcomes that meets leadership and client expectations.

- What you will do Lead the program management activities across the full transformation lifecycle, from global design and technical foundation through build, testing, deployment, hypercare and transition to business as usual.
- Operate as the program integrator, connecting Finance, Technology, Data, Architecture, Controls, Change Management, regional teams, adjacent initiatives and external partners into one coherent delivery model.
- Own the integrated view of program health, including scope, roadmap, milestones, budget, resources, benefits, dependencies, risks, issues, decisions, quality, readiness and delivery outcomes
- Leads and supports the development of a Program and project level business cases to ensure work is well understood and defined
- Establish and maintain clear governance forums, roles, decision rights, escalation paths, terms of reference and stage-gate criteria. Ensure decisions and approvals are timely, evidence-based and auditable.
- Works cooperatively with IS Financial Management and BU Financial Reporting to determine the appropriate financial treatment of capital investments (i.e. expense or capitalize) and ensure accuracy in financial reporting
- Partner with program leadership and the system integrator to develop and maintain the integrated plan. Test the plan for completeness, credible sequencing, critical path, cross-workstream dependencies, resource demand, regional impacts and decision lead times.
- Build a high-performing, collaborative program culture with clear ownership, transparent communication, disciplined execution and constructive challenge.
- Defines the governance structure and ensures work is completed with an appropriate level of detail and quality, optimizing resource usage
- Oversees and manages the relationship with senior stakeholders, partnering with management in the development of strategic and operational plans
- Develops and manages an effective delivery network across project managers and other leaders
- Oversee program financial management, including budget, forecast, actuals, vendor spend, resource assumptions and financial risks. Prepare decision-ready materials for Management Review.
- Monitors benefits realization of program components to ensure they remain strategically aligned to the business unit goals
- Create an integrated executive view of status and outlook. Convert detailed workstream inputs into concise, outcome-focused reporting that clearly identifies achievements, upcoming milestones, decisions required,



material risks and recovery actions.
- Coordinate ownership and resolution of program risks, issues and dependencies. Drive mitigation, remove internal blockers and facilitate escalation where executive or cross-segment action is required.
- Proactively resolves scope, cost, schedule, resource, quality and risk issues within a shared governance structure across program and projects
- Ability to identify, manage and resolve conflicts across the program, including multiple, complex, competing tasks, while meeting deadlines and stakeholder satisfaction
- Defines and leads implementation of Canada Life’s PDLC, project management practices, processes, tools and methodologies
- Provides leadership to team towards the achievement of strategic objectives, including providing feedback to people leaders on performance, development, resource assignment, etc.
- Collaborates with Change Champion to ensure organizational change for the program and change management strategies align with business priorities
- Acts in a leadership capacity to represent teams in program planning and roadmap development promoting collaboration for the program
- Rapidly acquires new knowledge, learns new skills, and applies original thinking to produce new ideas and innovative products while understanding the organization’s vision and values

Qualifications and Competencies:

- 15+ years of progressive program and transformation leadership experience, including at least 7 years leading large, complex, multi-workstream enterprise programs.
- Experience leading or playing a senior program role in an SAP ECC-to-S/4HANA transformation, preferably for Finance and across multiple legal entities or regions is an asset.
- Experience in insurance or a similarly complex financial-services operating model, including interaction among Finance, Investments, Actuarial, Data and regional entities, is an asset.
- PMP and/or Program Management designation is considered an asset
- Extensive experience in:
- Business case development
- Scoping, estimating, and work management across multiple competing initiatives
- Complex program management through ambiguous situations
- Developing effective working relationships and conflict management across executive and senior management stakeholders on complex and large projects.
- Conflict resolution across senior stakeholders
- Coaching teams and individuals in project management strategies and methods
- Demonstrated accountability for a multi-year transformation across business and technology, with executive governance, significant financial and resource oversight, multiple vendors and geographically dispersed stakeholders.
- Experience operating within a global, highly regulated organization. Experience in financial services, insurance, banking, asset management or retirement services is strongly preferred.




- Proven success establishing and running enterprise program governance, integrated planning, stage gates, financial management, advantages tracking, RAID, decision management, change control, executive reporting and delivery assurance.
- Thought leadership and passion about not only program/project management but the business, technology and user experience
- Track record of strong team building and relationship management
- Strong understanding of the principles and frameworks of successful program and project management including demonstrated experience applying flexible delivery methodologies such as Agile Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall and Hybrid delivery approaches.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including program budgeting, forecasting, vendor management, business cases, capitalization considerations and advantages realization.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate Finance and Technology workstreams and to translate detailed program information into clear executive decisions and actions.
- Experience with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate), Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
- Ability to work in a virtual and global team environment, facilitating and contributing to work across geographies and across other functional teams
- Credible with senior Finance and Technology executives and able to work effectively with detailed functional and technical teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with significant experience developing and executing on communication plans
- Enterprise-minded and outcome-oriented, with the confidence to lead across organizational boundaries.
- Working knowledge of risk, control, audit, regulatory and information-security expectations in a regulated enterprise environment.
- Comfortable challenging an external partner while maintaining a constructive, one-team relationship.
- Disciplined and transparent, with a bias for action, early risk prevention and timely decision-making.
- Proven track record on leading and delivering increasingly complex related projects and programs managing expectations in different contexts.
