The Shelter Support Line
Prevention and Diversion Worker (SSL) /Residential Worker provides general information, books shelter beds, and provides confidential shelter options for those that have lost housing and individuals or families who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Answer the SSL phone and complete callbacks Implements diversion strategies to prevent homelessness child protection services, police, community organizations) Regularly communicates with emergency shelters (daily), housing navigator, landlords, and service providers Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; Coordinates client care relating to security issues; May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures ensures ongoing enforcement of policies,
which may include client discipline May serve as Receptionist for Shelter May prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents Maintain office equipment Ongoing training and continuous learning The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months (Addictions Facilities). Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and be comfortable working with, and developing, Spreadsheets using Excel ~ Be familiar with housing supports on PEI ~ More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including, experience with frontline work in a social service setting.
The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and performing walk abouts. The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students.
The incumbent’s work workplace is typically in a shelter and/or in treatment facilities.
Isolation The incumbent may have little to no travel required. The incumbent will work 12 hr shifts. The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to: Immunization for Hepatitis B Vaccination against Tuberculosis Non-violent Crisis intervention training This is a permanent full-time position Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
