Position Summary The Residential Support Worker, under the direction of the Supervisor of Services, is responsible for delivering and maintaining a safe, supportive, respectful, trauma-informed, and client-centred services to youth, women and families experiencing homelessness.
This role involves direct client interaction with housing-focused planning, crisis intervention, monitoring the facility, and supporting residents with daily needs. The residential support worker provides services in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization, that support and reflect the mission, vision, and values of Lotus House.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support residents during assigned shifts
- Maintain a protected, respectful, and inclusive shelter environment
- Respond appropriately to crises, conflicts, and emergencies
- Complete client intakes, bed assignments, discharges, and basic documentation
- Enforce shelter rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner
- Conducts routine facility checks
- Housekeeping duties, meal prepping, and cooking for large groups
- Provide referrals and support as appropriate
- Work collaboratively with team members and external partners
- Exhibits exemplary professional conduct
- Promotes and supports a safe work environment
- Promotes knowledge and understanding of Cultural Safety, Reconciliation, and Indigenous Engagement
Other Duties This individual in this role will predominantly work casual shifts 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am. Due to the dynamic nature of the work in this shelter, other responsibilities and duties may be assigned.
Required Skills
- Diploma in Social Service field or related field
- Excellent reading, writing, and computer skills
- Current First Aid CPR
- Current Vulnerable Sectors Check
- Safe Food Handling certificate
- A thorough understanding of the organization’s mandate and objectives
- Able to meet essential physical requirements of the position
- The skills to deal rationally and diligently with crisis and emergency situations
- Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work shift work, including overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Having De-escalation, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention and Prevention training would be considered an asset
