Lumber Commodity Buyer – Truss Manufacturing Location: Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent Our client is an established Manitoba manufacturer of roof and floor truss systems serving residential, multifamily, commercial and agricultural construction projects. They are looking for an experienced Lumber Commodity Buyer to oversee lumber purchasing for their truss manufacturing operation. This is a key position responsible for monitoring commodity markets, negotiating with suppliers and ensuring the plant has the right materials available to support production requirements.
The ideal candidate understands lumber markets, purchasing and inventory management within a truss plant, lumber yard, building components manufacturer or building materials business. Purchase dimensional lumber and related commodities for roof and floor truss production Monitor lumber markets, pricing trends, availability and lead times Negotiate pricing, purchasing terms and delivery schedules with suppliers Coordinate purchasing decisions with production schedules, inventory levels and sales forecasts Maintain appropriate inventory levels while limiting overstock and unnecessary carrying costs Review historical usage and upcoming production requirements to anticipate material needs Track purchase orders, shipments and supplier performance Work with production,
sales and operations to respond to changing priorities Monitor material quality and work with suppliers to resolve shortages or quality concerns Maintain organized purchasing, pricing and inventory records Assist with customer and sales requirements when needed Experience purchasing lumber or wood products within a truss plant, lumber yard, building materials operation or component manufacturing business Experience monitoring markets and making purchasing decisions based on pricing, demand and inventory requirements Established relationships within the Western Canadian lumber market would be an asset Experience with inventory management and purchasing software Robust analytical skills and confidence working with costs, margins and market data The ability to balance production needs with inventory and cash-flow considerations Experience in contractor sales or customer account management would be an asset Stable, full-time employment The opportunity to influence purchasing strategy, inventory performance and plant profitability A collaborative environment working closely with production, sales and operations If you understand lumber markets and know how to keep a manufacturing operation supplied while protecting costs and margins, we would like to hear from you. #
