Position Summary Under the direction of the School Age Child Care Director, the Site Assistant will assist with all program activities, including arts & crafts, music & drama, games, sports, group activities, science experiments, quiet and homework time, character development, team building, KidzLit, and Discovery Learning Centers. Employment is contingent on clearing all NYS OCFS licensing requirements, including fingerprinting, background screening, and clearance on the State Central Register and Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment within the first 30 days of employment. The incumbent must also complete an initial medical statement and tuberculin test prior to assignment; if previously worked in a Child/Day Care setting, a prior medical statement and tuberculin test accepted if dated within 12 months preceding application.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Site Coordinator in planning and developing lesson plans that include arts & crafts, music and drama, games, sports, group activities, science activities and experiments, quiet and homework time, character development, team building, KidzLit, and Discovery Learning Centers. Observe and follow the School Age Child Care program guidelines and NYS OCFS regulations when planning activities. Greet children and parents by name whenever possible and extend thanks when appropriate.

Assist in promotion and leading of the School Age annual family event, including retention initiatives. Report to the program ready to work at designated times and prepare to stay until all children have left. Conduct the program in the Site Coordinator's absence.

Perform general housekeeping tasks, clean up after every activity, and ensure site and program areas are clean and well organized. Provide a safe, healthy, moral, and fun environment for all children. Act as a positive role model for the children, including actions, speech, and attire.

Foster an environment that includes the YMCA character development values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty, while teaching team‑building, sportsmanship, friendship, and pride in doing one's best. Provide children with a daily wholesome snack appropriate to the age group; snack menus must be incorporated into daily lesson plans. Complete accident reports for all injuries or illnesses requiring first aid, and submit the report to the Site Coordinator.

Discuss incidents with parents and obtain a parent signature. Maintain a positive,



open relationship with all staff, parents, program participants, school administration, support staff, and community. Identify and resolve problems to ensure programs meet goals; report unresolved issues to the Site Coordinator.

Work additional hours when there is a scheduled half‑day of school. Work a half‑day or full day shift when school is closed due to inclement weather or other unexpected reasons and the YMCA Snow Day Fun Club is held. Work during vacation camp on a part‑time or full‑time basis, depending on need; a minimum of three shifts will be required.

Hand in completed time sheets on a bi‑weekly basis. Follow attendance and call‑in procedures; notify the Site Coordinator when unable to work your shift due to illness, doctor appointments, vacations, etc. Sufficient time must be given to allow the coordinator to find a substitute; requests may be denied if a substitute is not available.

Complete a minimum of 30 hours of training every two years, with the first fifteen hours received within the first six months of employment. Attend all staff meetings and training programs. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Substantial experience working with children under 13 years of age. Minimum age of 16, some sites may require 18. Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written. Maturity, responsibility, and sincere interest in working with people. Knowledge of resources for programming ideas and skill to utilize that information. Knowledge of age‑appropriate activities and expectations for children ages 5 to 12. NYS Office of Children and Family Services Requirements Prior to assignment: Complete initial medical statement and tuberculin test proving physical fitness for child day care. Within first 30 days:



Undergo fingerprint and background screening as mandated by the NYS OCFS; obtain clearance on the State Central Register and Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Trainings &

Certifications Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings before initial assignment. Must hold CPR, AED, and 02 (first aid may be required at some branches) certifications or complete them no later than 30 days after employment begins. Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90 days of employment. Must attend and complete New Employee Orientation (includes Activate America Video 1), Listen First Level 1, and Quality Service Training within the first 90 days of employment.

Physical Demands Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, type, run, jump, kick, catch, throw, climb, kneel, bend, reach, balance, crouch, or crawl; lift or carry approximately 35 pounds; lift or maneuver large gym equipment; and adjust for vision such as distance, peripheral, depth perception.

Work Workplace Duties performed in an office environment and childcare setting; may be exposed to undesirable conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from children.
