Title: Senior DB2 LUW Application DBA

Reports to: One of the largest Data Engineering fleets in an investment bank.

Works with Team/Department: Transaction Reporting

Function: Provides production Application DBA support to application teams within the Transaction Reporting department, delivering data engineering services to meet high-demand regulatory and reporting requirements.

Environment Scope

· 5 very large (300TB+) DB2 LUW DPF clusters per environment

· Multiple OLTP databases

· All on-premises

Roles & Responsibilities

Database Operations & Tuning

· Performance monitoring and tuning across DPF clusters

· Data purging strategy design and execution

· Space reclamation strategy for very large tables post-purge

· Backup, recovery, upgrade, and DR planning

Data Migration & Archival

· Snowflake database administration

· On-premises to Snowflake data migration

· DB2 → Snowflake and Greenplum archive → Snowflake migrations for very large datasets

· Continuous data archival pipeline: DB2 LUW → Snowflake via in-house SparkSQL-based tooling, maintaining a 30-minute data availability interval

Tools & Job Scheduling

· JIRA, Bitbucket,



and Git for day-to-day work

· Autosys — manages 700+ scheduled jobs per setting

Required Skills

· Strong Python and Shell scripting — automation is core to the role, not optional

· Working knowledge of JIRA, Bitbucket, Git, and Autosys

· AI-assisted development knowledge (VS Code, Copilot) — a plus

Work Management

· No fixed daily/weekly/monthly schedule — work is managed via Kanban

· Recurring ticket types (purge requests, migration tasks, performance/incident issues, ad-hoc regulatory asks) drive day-to-day priorities rather than a fixed calendar

Support Model

· Not a 24x7 role

· On-call rotation: one week every 2-3 months

· On-call coverage also requires basic Sybase database monitoring knowledge, in addition to core DB2 skills.

Judgment, Autonomy & Escalation

· This role requires independent judgment to define and act on these based on evolving regulatory needs

· The role is largely self-directed — a successful candidate should be comfortable operating with ambiguity and taking ownership without a fixed playbook
