Reporting to the Mechanical Section Manager, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes mechanical engineering knowledge and analysis during the design phase of our work. The project mix will span a variety of typologies and systems, including hyperscale data centres and collaborations with other business groups within HDR such as Water, Resources, and Transportation Business Groups. The role involves working on multiple projects with site locations in various regions.

The Sr Mechanical

Engineer may be involved in construction contract administration, site reviews on different projects, and condition assessments. The successful candidate will participate in a growing collaborative and integrated engineering team. Common areas for progression and growth opportunities for this position include leadership positions in Technical Specialization, Operations, or Project Management.

Coordinate the work of Mechanical Engineers with the balance of a multidisciplinary team throughout the entire project's development. Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings with regard to mechanical systems. Assume the mechanical lead on many projects.

Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines. Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule. Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work efforts with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the agreed-upon schedule.

Work with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management as needed.



Review mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines. Write and edit mechanical specifications; select equipment, mechanical systems and devices.

Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents. Produce and coordinate multiple projects concurrently. Provide construction contract administration as needed.

Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Mechanical Project Engineers, Mechanical Project Coordinators or Mechanical CAD Technicians as needed. Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis. Data Centre, Semiconductor, Healthcare, Laboratory or Sports facilities experience.

Experience using AI productivity tools to accelerate project workstreams including technical writing, code and specification research, and performance simulation and modeling. Computer experience using IESVE or similar software, manufacturer selection software, AI-enhanced engineering. Ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI-generated outputs (calculations, code interpretations, and routing designs) against core mechanical engineering fundamentals and regulations.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings. Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD. Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience. Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
