How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Specialist, Health &
- Safety provides advice, guidance and support at the divisional and business unit level regarding TRCA’s Health and Safety Management Program, strategies, policies procedures and initiatives.
Major Responsibilities: Ensures program compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards including the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines while coordinating and facilitating related education and training of employees.
Develops policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures as required and in collaboration with business units
Performs health and safety audits and evaluations, gap analysis, inspections, and assessments regularly to implement corrective actions, as required Collaborates with Learning &
- Development and operations in the identification, development, procurement, delivery and records maintenance of health and safety training, while ensuring legislative compliance
Supports initiatives around health and safety accreditations e.g. COR certification
Partners with the business unit management teams to address safety related issues, programs, policies, and procedures
Ensures contractors are working within Health and Safety standards and possess relevant safety certifications
Participates in and provides leadership and guidance to Joint Health &
- Safety Committees across the varying TRCA locations
Supports management teams with investigations of accidents, incidents, near misses, work refusals and provide recommendations for improvements
Manages WSIB claims with a focus on early and secure return to work processes, accommodation,
modified work What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses) Post-secondary diploma or degree in Health &
- Safety Management, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
Valid Ontario
Class G2 driver's license Experience 4+ years of experience with health and safety program management Experience managing WSIB claims and supporting return to work protocols
Experience developing and facilitating health and safety training programs Experience conducting safety audits and inspections Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies Sound working knowledge of health and safety principles and practices
Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines; skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate project status for various audiences
Understanding of health and safety management systems for the purposes of managing organization wide health and safety documentation
Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues
Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and other related legislation and standards
Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
Willing and able to travel to multiple offices, sites and projects
