The Alberta Sheriffs Police

Service (ASPS) is seeking a Staff Sergeant – Development and Standards Unit to provide leadership and oversight for recruit training, police development, experienced officer development, and field training programs. Reporting to the Inspector, this role will lead the development and continuous improvement of training programs, competency standards, assessment processes, and quality assurance practices that support operational readiness across the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with the Sheriffs Training Academy, internal ASPS units, and external policing partners to ensure officers are prepared to deliver safe, effective, and accountable policing services.

Lead recruit, development, and experienced officer training programs. Oversee curriculum, assessments, competency standards, and quality assurance activities. Support field training integration and officer readiness.

Provide leadership to Sergeants and training staff. Contribute to strategic planning, training governance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Extensive operational policing experience,



including experience at the Staff Sergeant level.

Assets

Minimum of six (6) years of operational policing experience with confirmed Staff Sergeant experience in operational policing Experience leading high-performance teams Experience in recruit training, in-service training, or adult education Experience in Field Training (FTO) programs Experience in curriculum development and assessment design Experience managing performance and progressive discipline processes Please note there is one (1) permanent, full-time, in-person position available. Valid

Class 5 Alberta Driver's License or equivalent is required.
