Nodin Mental Health

Services, a department of the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), supports the mental health and well-being of First Nation individuals and communities. Nodin provides a wide range of services for children, youth, adults, and families, including intake, a social emergency response service, an outpatient mental health service, art therapy, psychology, school-based counsellors, travelling counsellors, a hostel-based counsellor, and a mobile outreach service. The Supervisor – Clinical, Outreach Services is a member of Nodin’s Outreach Services team, which includes travelling counsellors, school-based counsellors, a hostel-based counsellor, and mobile outreach staff.

The Supervisor works collaboratively with supervisees to ensure the safety and well-being of clients through the delivery of ethical, high-quality clinical services, and to support supervisees in upholding professional and clinical standards. In this role, the Supervisor provides oversight through monitoring, observation, mentorship, coaching, and evaluation. The Supervisor – Clinical, Outreach Services reports directly to the Manager – Clinical, Outreach Services.

Bachelor’s degree in a core mental health discipline (e.g., social work, psychology) or closely related field from a recognized institution is required. Completion of a minimum of 150 hours of clinical supervision, along with at least 30 hours of formal training in clinical supervision is required. Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing mental health counselling is required.

Demonstrated clinical experience working with children, youth, adults, and families.

Experience supporting complex clinical presentations, including concurrent disorders, trauma, and high-risk behaviours.



Previous supervisory and leadership experience is considered an asset. Strong understanding of theoretical frameworks and principles underpinning mental health practice.

Proficiency in clinical assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning. Strong problem-solving, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a quick-paced environment.

Highly developed relationship-building skills with staff, external partners, and communities.

Cultural

Competence & Community Engagement Knowledge of First Nations cultures, histories, and the social and geographic realities of northern communities.

Experience working with First Nations individuals and communities is an asset. Ability to communicate in a First Nations dialect of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset.

Clinical

Oversight & Quality Assurance Monitor counsellors to ensure consistent adherence to organizational policies, standard operating procedures, clinical protocols, performance expectations, and productivity benchmarks. Oversee the provision of effective case management services. Ensure timely response, active clinical involvement, and thorough documentation for all high-risk cases.

Maintain oversight of case files, ensuring legal and ethical issues are identified and addressed promptly. Maintain a tracking system for high-risk clients to ensure continuity and adequacy of service delivery. Supervision,



Coaching & Staff Development Conduct bi-weekly individual supervision meetings to review referrals and active cases, supporting accountability, clinical direction, and care planning.

Ensure that clinical direction provided to supervisees is documented within the electronic health record system. Promote the development of counselling competencies through ongoing evaluation, feedback, and coaching. Support supervisees in applying best practices and developing innovative, client-centered interventions.

Provide crisis intervention support and facilitate group debriefings as required. Conduct probationary and annual performance evaluations. Identify staff training needs in collaboration with the Clinical Manager and Director; participate in training delivery as required.

Schedule and coordinate the work of direct reports to ensure effective service delivery. Collect and analyze service data against productivity, quality, and efficiency benchmarks. Prepare and submit supervision summaries and other required reports as needed (e.g., for funders and senior management).

Complete additional administrative duties as required. Stakeholder & Community Engagement Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with communities. Support the development and maintenance of community resource profiles.

Review community mental health data to inform service planning and delivery. Support community-specific mental health programming. Maintain regular supervision with the Clinical Manager for consultation on supervisees, performance, and emerging issues.

Submit required reports in advance of supervision meetings for review and discussion. Address staff performance and conduct issues, including documentation and implementation of disciplinary processes where required. #
