Wilp Si Wilaxsinsxwhl Simgigyet (Chiefs House of Learning), Gitwangak The Principal/Teacher is responsible for the day-to-day management, administration, leadership, and supervision of Wilp Si Wilaxsinxswhl Simgigyet. The Principal/Teacher ensures the effective integration of Gitxsan culture, history and language into the education curriculum. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS Master of Education (Administrative Leadership) Bachelor of Education Degree Teaching Experience – minimum of 5 years, preferably in a First Nations School In-depth knowledge of the BC Education curriculum Administrative Experience- minimum of 2 years Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Experience with budgets Conflict Resolution and Management Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PRINCIPAL/TEACHER Coordinates with key stakeholders to develop the strategic and operational planning of the School Programs and activities
- Facilitates and ensures the personal and career development of school staff
- Manages and supervises the daily operations of Wilp Si Wilaxsinxswhl Simgigyet activities, programs, staff and students
- Designs and implements a Community Relations program, providing ongoing information regarding school activities, achievements, needs and direction to the Community
- Plans, implements and monitors a K-7 program and curriculum, ensuring integration of Gitksen First Nation’s Culture, History and Language
- Coordinates regular testing and assessment of students, making provisions for students requiring special needs services as required and ensures instructional staff are trained in current recognition and assessment techniques
