Bring Your Public Practice Foundation In-House and Help Build a Global Tax Function
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced tax professional to join one of Canada's fastest-growing global technology companies and play a key role in the continued development of its in-house tax function.
We are particularly interested in tax professionals who have developed a strong technical foundation within Big Four or large national public practice and subsequently gained hands-on experience within a complex corporate or multinational environment.
Reporting directly to the VP, Tax, this is a hands-on Senior Manager position combining corporate tax compliance, tax accounting and provisions with international tax, business partnering, process improvement and strategic projects.
While the position offers significant exposure to senior leadership and complex global tax matters, this is not a role focused solely on reviewing the work of others or managing external advisors. The successful candidate will remain actively involved in the underlying technical work, including tax provisions, compliance, detailed working papers, technical analysis and documentation.
Who – The Company
Our client is a rapidly growing global software company headquartered in Metro Vancouver. Recognized as an industry leader and consistently ranked among Canada's top employers, the organization has built a strong reputation for innovation, customer experience and workplace culture.
With operations across North America, Europe, Australia and Latin America, the company continues to expand internationally through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
As the business scales, the Finance team is continuing to develop the infrastructure required to support an increasingly complex global organization, including a modern and globally integrated tax function.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing Finance team during an exciting period of growth and transformation.
What – The Opportunity
SWIM Recruiting has been exclusively engaged to recruit a Senior Manager, Tax, reporting directly to the VP, Tax.
This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to help shape and strengthen a growing global tax function.
Historically, the organization has utilized external advisors across a number of areas. As the business continues to grow, the long-term vision is to bring greater tax expertise and ownership in-house while strengthening governance, documentation, controls and processes.
The successful candidate will combine the technical rigour of public practice with the practical ownership and commercial mindset of an in-house tax professional.
What You'll Be Doing
Corporate Tax Compliance & Risk Management
- Support and oversee corporate income tax compliance across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
- Remain actively involved in the preparation and review of tax returns, calculations, supporting schedules and detailed tax working papers.

- Support tax audits, regulatory inquiries and information requests.
- Research and analyze technical tax issues and clearly document conclusions.

- Take a hands-on role in the preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions.
- Support tax accounting and financial reporting requirements under ASC 740 / US GAAP.
- Prepare and improve detailed tax provision working papers, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Analyze current and deferred tax positions and support the resolution of complex tax accounting matters.

- Help build scalable tax accounting and reporting processes capable of supporting an increasingly complex global organization.
International Tax & Business Partnering
- Support international tax matters across a growing multinational business.
- Assist with transfer pricing and intercompany tax considerations.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Product, Engineering, Sales, HR and other teams on the tax implications of business initiatives.
- Support international expansion and evolving global tax requirements.
- Assist with R&D; tax incentives across relevant jurisdictions.
- Support acquisitions, tax due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Contribute to emerging global tax matters and regulatory developments.
Building & Improving the Tax Function
A particularly exciting aspect of this opportunity is the ability to help shape how the tax function develops.
The successful candidate will:

Who – The Candidate
Our client is seeking a technically strong tax professional who is equally comfortable getting into the detail and seeing the bigger picture.
The ideal profile combines a strong public-practice foundation with subsequent experience operating from within an organization.
You understand the technical rigour required to arrive at and document an appropriate tax position, but you can also communicate effectively with business stakeholders and understand the commercial context behind the numbers.
Importantly, you still enjoy being hands-on. This position will suit someone who wants senior-level exposure and complex work without moving entirely away from the preparation, analysis and detailed technical aspects of tax.
What We're Looking For
- CPA designation or international equivalent.
- Approximately 8+ years of progressive tax experience.
- Strong foundational training from Big Four or a large national public accounting firm.
- In-house tax experience within a large, complex or multinational organization is strongly preferred.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong project-management and organizational capabilities.
- Comfortable working independently within a quick-paced and evolving environment.

- M&A; tax due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Public-company reporting or IPO readiness.
- Tax technology, systems, automation or AI-enabled tax processes.
- Technology or SaaS industry experience.
Technology-sector experience would certainly be beneficial, but it is not essential. The hiring team is more interested in finding someone with the right technical foundation, hands-on capability, industry mindset and desire to help build and improve a growing global tax function.
Who Will This Opportunity Appeal To?
This could be an excellent next step for someone who:
- Started their career in public practice and developed a strong technical tax foundation before moving in-house.
- Enjoys the complexity and technical rigour of tax but wants broader ownership within one organization.
- Wants to remain hands-on with provisions, compliance and technical analysis while also gaining exposure to strategic projects.
- Enjoys working directly with senior leadership and partnering across the business.
- Wants exposure to international expansion, acquisitions, transfer pricing and evolving global tax requirements.
- Likes improving processes and building infrastructure rather than simply inheriting a mature tax function.
- Wants to work closely with an experienced VP, Tax and have meaningful influence over how the function develops.
This role offers an unusual combination of hands-on technical tax ownership and broader strategic exposure. You will remain close to the detail across compliance, provisions and tax accounting while also contributing to international expansion, acquisitions, transfer pricing, process improvement and the continued development of a global tax function.
