About HORIZON

HORIZON Travel & Lifestyle is an established Canadian travel and lifestyle media brand with a 25+ year history. We tell stories about the places, experiences, food, people and adventures that make Ontario and Canada worth exploring.

We are expanding our network of Ontario-based travel content creators and are looking for talented creators who can get out into the field and capture authentic, engaging photo and video content.

This is a field-based content creation role — not a traditional social media management position.

The Role

We're looking for creators who can travel throughout Ontario to visit destinations and experiences and capture high-quality content that HORIZON can use across:

- Instagram Reels
- TikTok
- Facebook
- Instagram Stories
- HORIZON's website
- Digital articles
- Newsletters
- Print
- Client and tourism campaigns

You may be visiting a new resort in Muskoka one week, exploring a small town the next, and capturing a food, outdoor or cultural experience somewhere else in Ontario after that.

Your job is to experience it, capture it and tell the story visually.

What You'll Do

- Travel to destinations and experiences throughout Ontario
- Capture high-quality vertical video for Reels and TikTok
- Capture photography for editorial and social use
- Film destination experiences, hotels, restaurants, attractions and outdoor activities
- Capture authentic, natural moments rather than overly staged content
- Develop creative ideas for how a destination or experience should be presented
- Create short-form videos with strong hooks, storytelling and pacing
- Edit content for social platforms
- Capture B-roll, establishing shots, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage
- Work from HORIZON editorial assignments and creative briefs
- Occasionally appear on camera or conduct short interviews




- Collaborate with HORIZON's editorial and sales teams
- Deliver organized photo/video files after assignments
- Occasionally create content for tourism boards, hotels, attractions and other HORIZON partners

We're looking for people who love getting out and exploring Ontario and naturally see stories everywhere they go.

- Travel content creator
- Photographer/videographer
- TikTok or Instagram creator
- Journalism or media student/graduate
- Freelance filmmaker
- Lifestyle creator
- Outdoor/adventure creator
- Food or hospitality content creator
- Travel writer who also creates strong visual content

You don't need to have worked for a major media company.

Your portfolio matters more than your resume.

We're looking for creators who can demonstrate that they know how to capture a place or experience in a way that makes someone watching think:

"I want to go there."

Requirements

- Based in Ontario
- Comfortable travelling throughout Ontario
- Strong photography and/or videography skills
- Ability to shoot high-quality vertical video
- Understanding of social-first storytelling
- Ability to edit short-form video
- Access to a smartphone capable of high-quality video; camera equipment is an asset
- Reliable transportation is an asset
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in the field
- Ability to meet deadlines and follow creative briefs

Capture rooms, amenities, dining, activities and the overall guest experience.

Events & Festivals
Capture the atmosphere, people, experiences and highlights of Ontario events.

Hidden Gems
Find and showcase interesting places and experiences that Ontario travellers may not know about.

What We Value

We're looking for creators, not just camera operators.

The best candidates understand:

What should I film?
What's the story?
What's the hook?
What would make someone stop scrolling?
What would make someone want to visit?

You should be comfortable working independently, talking to people, exploring new places and finding the interesting moments that others might overlook.

Compensation

Assignments will vary depending on the scope, location and content requirements.

Compensation will be discussed based on experience and assignment requirements. Approved travel expenses will be covered where applicable.

There is potential for ongoing assignments and a regular relationship with HORIZON for creators who consistently produce robust work.

Pay: $500.00-$5,000.00 per day
