I am looking for a warm, dependable, highly organized and proactive individual for a unique part-time position combining after-school childcare, household support, and some executive/administrative assistance for a medical professional.
I have two girls, ages 4 (almost 5 and starting Primary) and 7 (starting Grade 3). Their school is conveniently located approximately a five-minute walk from our home.
Start Date: September 1, 2026 preferred, but negotiable for the right candidate
Hours: Approximately 1:00–5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
Starting Wage: $22/hour, negotiable based on experience, qualifications, administrative skills, and the scope of responsibilities
Schedule & Family Arrangement
The children have a shared parenting schedule. This position is for one parent and is based exclusively in that parent's home; the successful candidate would not be expected to work between two households.
Because of the shared parenting schedule, the amount of direct childcare varies from week to week. I can, however, offer consistent Monday-to-Friday hours if preferred. On days or during periods when the children are not present, the time can be used for meal preparation, household management, errands, organization and administrative responsibilities.
Availability for school PD days and occasional additional hours are an asset.
About the Role
This is more than a traditional after-school nanny position. I'm looking for someone who enjoys working with children and enjoys being organized, taking initiative and helping a busy household run smoothly.
Responsibilities may include:
- School pickup and after-school care for two girls
- Preparing snacks and helping with the afternoon routine
- Transportation to occasional after-school activities
- Meal planning and meal preparation
- Grocery shopping and keeping track of household essentials
- Light housekeeping,
tidying and household organization
- Laundry and other routine household tasks as needed
- Light errands
- Household scheduling and general home-management tasks
- Administrative and organizational assistance related to a medical practice
- General executive-assistant and office-management tasks
We currently have a regular housecleaner, so general light housekeeping rather than full housecleaning is anticipated as part of the core role. If a candidate is interested in taking on more substantial housecleaning responsibilities, this can be discussed separately, including the scope of work and appropriate compensation.
Similarly, the exact balance between childcare, household management and administrative work can be tailored somewhat to the successful candidate's strengths, interests and experience.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is kind, dependable, trustworthy, organized and self-directed.
Relevant experience could include childcare/nannying, household management, administrative assistance, executive assistance, office management, or a combination of these.
Experience in a professional or medical-office environment would be an asset but is not required. Because some responsibilities may involve a medical practice, professionalism, discretion, attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
A valid driver's licence and comfort driving children are assets. A vehicle can be provided for child-related transportation,
including occasional after-school activities.
Current First Aid and CPR certification are strongly preferred, or a willingness to obtain certification.
The successful candidate will also be required to provide references and a satisfactory criminal record/vulnerable sector check and be legally permitted to work in Canada.
Compensation
Starting compensation is $22/hour, with flexibility depending on the candidate's experience, qualifications, skill set and the responsibilities ultimately agreed upon.
Someone primarily bringing strong childcare and household-support experience may fit well within the core position, while candidates with significant household-management, executive-assistant, medical-office, administrative, cooking/meal-planning, or other relevant qualified experience are encouraged to apply and can expect compensation to be discussed accordingly.
The Right Fit
Ultimately, we hope to find someone who can become a trusted and valued part of our family's routine.
This could be an especially good opportunity for someone who loves working with children but would enjoy a position with more variety, autonomy and responsibility than a traditional after-school nanny role. The role offers an opportunity to use organizational and administrative skills while helping both a household and professional practice run smoothly.
If this sounds like a good fit, I'd love to hear from you. Please tell me a little about yourself, your relevant experience, your availability, and what aspects of the position particularly interest you.
