Job SummaryThe HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and environmental control systems within agricultural and production facilities. This role plays a critical part in maintaining optimal environmental conditions to support operational efficiency, product quality, and regulatory compliance.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, inspect, service, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems across greenhouse, production, and storage environmentsMonitor, maintain, and optimize environmental control systems, including temperature, humidity, ventilation, and airflowDiagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and implement timely and effective corrective actionsExecute preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime and extend asset lifespanOperate and troubleshoot automated systems, including sensors, control panels, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)Ensure proper air quality, filtration, and environmental conditions are consistently maintained across the facilityCalibrate and maintain thermostats, humidistats, and environmental monitoring equipmentInterpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals to support installation and repairsMaintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and compliance documentationEnsure adherence to all safety standards, environmental regulations, and site‐specific biosecurity protocolsProvide technical guidance and training to operations staff on HVAC system functionality and best practicesSupport continuous improvement initiatives, including energy efficiency and system optimization projectsQualifications and Education RequirementsDiploma or certification in HVAC, Refrigeration,
or a related fieldValid HVAC/refrigeration license (as required by provincial regulations)Robust knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systemsDemonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systemsPreferred QualificationsExperience with automated environmental control systems in agricultural or industrial settingsElectrical background (e.G., Industrial Electrician certification or equivalent experience)Familiarity with energy management and efficiency practicesExperience working in regulated environments (e.G., food production, cannabis, or pharmaceuticals)Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsAbility to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment (50 lbs or more)Frequent bending, climbing, standing, and kneelingAbility to work in hot, cold, and humid conditions for extended periodsWork may be performed in greenhouse, production, and industrial environments with varying temperatures and humidity levelsMay require working at heights, in confined spaces, or with specialized equipmentParticipation in on‐call rotation and availability for emergency response may be requiredCompensation$35–$47/hr.
