Department: Community Mental Health & AddictionsThe Community Withdrawal Management Services (CWMS) and Protected Beds (Mental Health & Justice Beds and Crisis Beds) unit operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing withdrawal management, crisis stabilization, and short-term support for individuals experiencing substance use concerns, mental health crises, and/or addictions crises. While working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe, competent, ethical, and evidence-informed nursing care, including comprehensive nursing assessment, clinical monitoring, therapeutic interventions, health teaching, and medication management to promote client safety, stabilization, and recovery.QUALIFICATIONSCertification/Experience/Knowledge:Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) certificate required (within the last twelve months)Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate an assetMinimum (1-2 year) experience in Mental Health and Addictions (within last 2 to 3 years) requiredMinimum (1-2 year) experience in Community Mental Health and Addictions is an assetCertification from the Canadian Nurses Association in psychiatric/mental health nursing is required (Certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CPMC(c) is an asset)Knowledge of psychiatric conditions, psychotropic medication, related side effects,
symptom management and health teaching requiredSound knowledge of substance misuse and addictions treatment requiredPrevious experience providing individual goal directed counseling and group health teaching is requiredRecent medical / clinical experience in an active care setting is an assetConduct mental and physical status assessments and assess clients' physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs to determine priority of care requirements based on client needs, availability of resources and best practicesDemonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing a Recovery Based Philosophy and knowledge of the Patient and Family Partnered Care PracticesExperience working in the Charge/Team Lead position with experience in delegating requiredSkills/Abilities:Demonstrated ability to support clients with a variety of mental health, addictions, and physical health conditions across the adult life span requiredAssess high risk situations and provide effective crisis management and de-escalationApplied approached in health promotion, self-management, harm reduction, disease management and monitoring practiceMust demonstrate excellent level of interpersonal skillsMust demonstrate excellent level of written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, clients, families,
regional support services and community partners requiredAbility to provide health teaching to individuals and groups requiredMust be committed to continuing education on an annual basis and demonstrate commitment to quality improvement requiredAbility to effectively assume a leadership role as a collaborative member of the health team requiredAbility to assume responsibility for patient care in a total patient care climate requiredAble to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to all patients requiredAbility to problem-solve and function in fast-paced environment requiredExcellent demonstrated assessment, critical thinking and intervention skills requiredMust demonstrate basic computer knowledgeMust demonstrate commitment to ensure personal safety, safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitorsAbility to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events requiredMust demonstrate good attendance and work recordBilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.
