EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYThe Salvation Army British ColumbiaPOSITION: Support Services WorkerFACILITY: Belkin House, Vancouver, BCJob No.: JR112027POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARYTo meet the needs of our fellow staff, residents and community in a professional manner meeting the highest standard of safety, etiquette, service and hospitalityKEY ACCOUNTABILITIESTo conduct oneself in a pleasant, qualified, client and staff focused mannerTo assist and support clients, community and staff; fielding basic inquiries, providing information, guidance internal referrals within the framework of established policies and proceduresTo assist residents to understand, and ensure they comply with, the various restrictions of the facility in a firm but polite and diplomatic mannerTo provide basic problem solving and dealing with problem clients and individuals requiring discipline, without force, in a quiet and efficient mannerTo participate in facility or professional group seminars and staff meeting to increase knowledge and program development as requiredAs assigned:answer main switchboard and ensure that all telephone calls are answered and redirected in a proper, polite and helpful mannermonitor computerized security and camera systems for the safety and security of the staff and residentshandle cash, issue receipts and perform basic clerical functions and data‐entryconduct rounds / physical checks of the building to ensure staff, resident and facility safety and security according to established policyTo perform emergency services communication (police, fire, ambulance) and to perform functions outlined in the fire plan and safety procedures, helping to ensure the safety of staff and residentsTo prepare "Occurrence Reports", logs, data entry and statistics as required, according to policies and procedureTo maintain awareness of any problems (medical, behavioural, or other)



experienced by clients and report pertinent information in desk log and to supervisorPerform other related duties as requiredWORKING CONDITIONSThis position is a security‐related position that requires one to work in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients and community in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently, frequently under pressure whilst managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an on‐going expectation of this position.The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONSCompletion of Grade 12 or the equivalent education, training and experienceCurrent First Aid/CPR training and willingness for Non‐Violent Crisis Intervention trainingProven understanding of addiction issues, mental health issues & homelessnessA mature individual, who is willing to work alongside the Belkin House MissionStrong interpersonal behavioural skills with the ability to maintain confidentialityPrevious experience in shelter, security and/or hospitality industriesA proven ability to handle and record cash transactionsTo submit to an enhanced security screeningStrong written and oral communication skillsBase knowledge of Privacy issuesAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to lift 30 lbsAbility and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.E., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.SALARY AND TERMSSalary: Per Collective AgreementTerms: Casual, On‐callDAYS & TIME: Must be available to work all various shifts including days, evenings, overnight, weekends, and statutory holidays.NO. of VACANCIES: 4
