The Victoria Police Department is seeking Constable applications for the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU). CRU is designed to support the City of Victoria's Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan and assist the Patrol Division in efforts by proactively addressing street-level crime and disorder issues. The unit's mandate focuses on identifying, disrupting, and reducing low to mid-level property crime, drug trafficking, and chronic offender activity that negatively impacts community safety. Through intelligence-led policing, targeted enforcement, and collaborative partnerships, CRU members will work to reduce crime, support Patrol operations, and improve public confidence throughout the City of Victoria.Community Safety and Wellbeing Planhttps://www.Victoria.Ca/media/file/community-safety-and-wellbeing-plan-0Job DescriptionPrimarily, a plain clothes assignment focused on proactive enforcement, intelligence-led policing, and offender management initiatives.The deployment will be in a covert and/or overt capacity depending on evolving target or project goals.Operational staffing and deployment schedules, including a rotating 11.43 hour dayshift/afternoon pattern that encompass weekday and weekend deployments (same as GIS schedule):Mon-Thu 0700-1825 (4 days)5 days offWed-Sun 1035-2200 (5 days)4 days offFri-Tue 0700-1825 (5 days)5 days offRepeat (starting with afternoons)Hours of work will vary in order to respond to crime trends. (Schedule changes will be made with reasonable notice when possible)Support Patrol Division by addressing street-level crime trends, chronic offender activity, and emerging community safety issuesConduct proactive enforcement initiatives targeting low to mid-level drug trafficking, property crime,



and prolific offenders.Utilize intelligence-led policing strategies to identify, monitor, and disrupt criminal activity.Conduct surveillance, targeted enforcement operations, and offender-focused investigations.Work collaboratively with Patrol, Investigative Services, Community Services Division, and external law enforcement partners.Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, businesses, and service providers to support crime reduction objectives.Support crime prevention initiatives and community safety strategies through education, enforcement, and partnership-based approaches.Preferred QualificationsMust be a motivated self-starter and demonstrate solid teamwork skillsDemonstrated ability to conduct proactive policing, surveillance, and enforcement activitiesExperience investigating property crime, drug offences, and prolific offender activityDemonstrated ability to gather, assess, and utilize intelligence information including confidential source handlingWell-developed communication, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skillsAbility to build productive relationships with community partners, businesses, and other police unitsWorking knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and applicable Provincial StatutesExperience preparing judicial authorizations, disclosure packages, and comprehensive investigative reports is considered an assetThis posting is to fill three (3) vacancies in October and four (4) vacancies in December 2026.Special NotesThe Sergeant of CRU will be selected and announced prior to the Constable Job Application closing date.Applications must be submitted before Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 0900 hours
