CLASSIFICATION: REGISTERED SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER DEPARTMENT: OUTPATIENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICESPOSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND UNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU – HPD STATUS: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE DECEMBER JANUARY 2027)REASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT WAGE RATE: $34.37 - $39.50 Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Social Service Worker works as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a range services for clients who have substance use and mental health issues. The Social Service Worker’s primary responsibility is to provide treatment, rehabilitative and support services following Recovery Principles for individuals and groups. The Social Service Worker will work with the clients/families and treatment team to actively help rehabilitate each client to achieve their maximum functional level through planned therapeutic programs. This position is initially targeted to work in the Wellness and Recovery Centre with the understanding that the Social Service Worker is a member of the Mental Health and Addictions Department and as such may be assigned to another program as needed.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities: Required
Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers; or ability and willingness to obtain during probation period
Minimum two years’ experience as a Social Service Worker within a multi-disciplinary team serving individuals with substance use and mental health issues
Knowledge of mental health reform, values and principles of recovery, Mental Health Act, PHIPPA, Health Care Consent Act and Public Hospitals Act
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Harm Reduction Principles and Practices
Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by individuals in acute mental health distress and severe mental illness
Demonstrated knowledge of substance use and mental health community services, treatment and support programs
Demonstrated knowledge of and competence in the application of treatment modalities to support individuals with substance use and mental health issues
Demonstrated Psycho/Social and mental status assessment skills
Demonstrated knowledge of DSM-V
Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric medication, side effects and coping strategies
Able to effectively communicate with clients, family members, members of the Treatment Team and other stakeholders
Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, insurance coverage and personal vehicle - travelis required
Excellent organizational skills and scheduling abilities
Able to coordinate multiple departmental interests to provide quality client care
Able to problem-solve and make effective decisions under high stress and potentially violent emergencysituations
Willingness to learn and integrate new concepts into practice
Able to work all shifts including standby as required
Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred:
Experience in Crisis Intervention/emergency psychiatry and working with community agencies
CPR and CPI certifications
