Researchers in Schulich account for over half of research funding at Western.The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry's Research Office aims to enhance the School's research competitiveness and research capacity, and to foster a culture of research throughout the School.ResponsibilitiesThe Grants Officer ensures that research funding applications submitted by researchers for internal funding programs within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, as well as for various external funding opportunities, conform to high submission standards and to Western University and sponsor policies, procedures, and requirements within a complex research funding environment. The role provides guidance and support to faculty on research funding opportunities and proposal development, identifies and communicates deviations from institutional and sponsor requirements, and offers well-researched advice in support of institutional approval processes.
The Grants Officer acts as a resource to researchers in navigating Western's research policies, approval processes, and research administration systems, contributing to the effective submission of compliant and competitive research funding applications.QualificationsEducation:Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences, Medical Sciences, Life Sciences or relevant disciplineMaster's Degree in a relevant discipline is preferredExperience:5 years of experience in reviewing and administering grant proposals in an academic research environmentKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Familiarity with best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals and with Canadian peer-review granting systems, processes and proceduresOral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development and delivering presentationsVerbal communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for actionAbility to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standardsCustomer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University communityAbility to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlinesProfessional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues including senior managementIntermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to provide guidance,
