Assurance Specialist – Governance & Commercial AssuranceLocationOntario (Must be based in Ontario and available to work onsite as required)Employment TypeContract – Initial Term: 6 Months. Extension: Optional renewals in 6-month increments up to an additional 2 yearsWorking HoursFull-time: 35 hours/week, 7 hours/dayHybrid model: Up to 3 days remote per week (subject to performance and manager approval)Position SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented Assurance Specialist to support the Governance and Assurance function within the Commercial Management division. This role is integral in ensuring compliance, accountability, and performance of commercial contracts, particularly in post-award activities.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure effective governance and assurance across all commercial contractsMonitor and analyze contract performance; validate payments against contractual termsEnsure compliance with policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory standardsInvestigate overpayments, discrepancies, and recommend recovery actionsConduct internal assurance reviews and audits; prepare reporting documentsCollaborate with vendors and stakeholders to resolve issues and implement improvementsTrack governance KPIs and contribute to operational transparency and accountabilitySupport pre-award activities related to high-value or complex contractsReview and comment on statements of work, scopes,
and specificationsLead negotiation meetings for non-compliance or contract disputesRespond to vendor complaints and facilitate resolution with internal teamsMaintain accurate assurance documentation and support audit readinessProvide guidance to internal stakeholders and contribute to continuous process improvementsFoster a respectful and inclusive work workplace, in compliance with human rights and accessibility requirementsRequired Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum 3 years of experience in contract management, assurance, or related fieldsStrong understanding of contract governance, commercial assurance, and complianceExcellent analytical skills; ability to interpret complex contracts and financial dataExperience managing vendor relationships and conducting negotiationsFamiliarity with public sector procurement processes and practicesAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectivelyProficient in technical matters relating to engineered products, construction, or servicesStrong written and verbal communication skillsKnowledge of relevant legislation including the Ontario Human Rights CodeUnderstanding of union and trade agreementsEducationUniversity degree or college diploma in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related disciplineEquivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be consideredPreferred AssetsProfessional certifications (e.G., CIPS, IACCM/WorldCC) in contract or commercial managementExperience in the public sector or transit-related projectsExposure to internal audits, QA/QC, or risk management frameworksFamiliarity with enterprise content/document or contract management systems
