Looking for a new opportunity in the mining industry? Come join our team! Independent Rebuild Specialist has been proudly serving the industry for 20+ years and continues to grow. We are currently seeking experienced candidates for a full-time Field Service Technician position.
Field Service Technicians work on-site to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Caterpillar diesel engines and heavy mining equipment, including haul trucks, dozers, loaders, excavators, and other support equipment. This role requires strong mechanical and technical skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoot diesel engines and related equipment.
- Organize and maintain all information including photos, inspections, and part orders for each service call.
- Complete and submit service reports, repair inspection forms, and warranty reports.
- Charges time to appropriate job number and coordinates returns for parts credits, core credits, and signed documents for warranty services with appropriate personnel.
- Proficient use of Caterpillar’s Service Information System (SIS), Technical
- Makes determinations in the field on warranty repair and guidelines, communicating decisions to customer and management.
- Communicates effectively with customers verbally and in writing to ensure all repairs are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Safely rigs or hooks components for lifting
- Removes, repairs, and installs major components in varying configurations of equipment
- Performs work accurately with no rework and adheres to a warranty budget.
- Marketing Information (TMI), Microsoft Outlook (email), laptop, com adapters, and mechanical tooling.
- Proper use of Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) and Service Information
- System (SIS)
to request correct parts, diagnose, and repair equipment with minimal supervision.
- Maintains service vehicle in safe and good repair
- Maintain vehicle, tooling, and equipment in good working order
- Maintains good customer records on jobs that have been assigned
- Keeps up to date with developments in tooling, technologies, and new equipment.
- Uses safe working practices and follows all company safety requirements.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +40°C.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in a mining environment while wearing required PPE.
- Travel Requirements
- 75%-100%
- Travel to and from Fort McMurray for scheduled rotations
- Company flights are provided from Calgary or Edmonton to Fort McMurray
- Camp or Condo accommodations provided while on shift.
- Camp meals or groceries provided while on shift.
- Work Schedule
- 14 days on / 14 days off rotation
- 12-hour shifts
- Day shift and night shift rotation required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (HET)
Journeyperson Certificate required
- Fall Protection certification required
- Elevated Work Platform certification required
- 2+ years of mining experience required
- 3–5 years of field service experience, preferably on a mine site
- Robust problem-solving skills.
- Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing Caterpillar diesel engines, including C18, C27, C32, 3500 Series, and C175 engines
- Heavy Equipment experience required (haul trucks, excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, and other mining equipment)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft programs
- Understanding of Caterpillar warranty programs and coverage preferred
- Advanced knowledge of ET/SIS/TMI
- Ability to work independently with little or no direction
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on engine tear down, rebuilds, and complete system repair preferred
- Knowledge of parts used
- Clean repair and recondition equipment and components based on CAT Re-Use criteria
- Strong conflict resolution and critical thinking skills.
