Their responsibilities include assigning tasks, providing general feedback, and overseeing day-to-day operations. They lead a team of mechanical specialists trained in welding, machining, and pipe fitting, ensuring the completion of general inspections, process monitoring, and maintenance tasks in compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, they drive trains, supervise track staff, and oversee track inspections to maintain railway safety requirements.ResponsibilitiesMaintenanceOversee day-to-day operations, ensuring the steam trains are maintained and kept in working conditionSupports seasonal and casual staff by assigning tasks, monitoring work and providing feedbackProvides feedback on day-to-day performance to Chief Engineer to support performance reviewsOversee track staff (track foreman, machinist, and steam mechanic) and supervise minor repairsAct as the point of contact for mechanical operations as a specialist, providing guidance for troubleshooting issuesTroubleshoot issues as they arise and ensures accurate record keeping in repair logsFacilitate job-related training and development for staff,

Employees are expected to collaborate respectfully with volunteers and contribute to an environment where volunteers feel heard, secure, welcomed, and supported, recognizing the key role they play in delivering exceptional experiences for our community.Required QualificationsCompletion of 4th Class Power Engineer certification is requiredA minimum of one (1) year of experience in a role that demonstrates skilled mechanical aptitude is required; diesel mechanic experience including familiarity with diesel engines is an assetA minimum of six (6) months of experience in a lead role/project lead role in a work or academic environment is requiredMinimum 6 months prior experience as a Locomotive Engineer or Fireman is preferredCommitment to continuous learning and developmentDemonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced settingAll successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
