This program provides inpatient and telemedicine services for individuals dealing with both substance use and mental health conditions (concurrent disorders). Services are tailored to each client’s goals and include self-referrals, making care more accessible.
Qualifications
- Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing;
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
- Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
- CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
- Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
- Commitment to ongoing career development
- Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery,
skin care and feeding
- Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients
- Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team
- Basic computer skills required
Preferred:
- Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with substance use disorders (identifying signs and symptoms of withdrawal or intoxication from substance use)
- Experience facilitating groups
- Experience working with patients with concurrent disorders
- Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positions techniques
Language Requirements
English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
